I've ridden for years and years -but am new to dressage. These days, toward the end of a lesson, I notice that I seem to..uh, well, how do I put it? Pass air....from the female parts. Has anyone else experienced this????? What am I doing wrong? It's embarrassing. THANKS.

I laughed in empathy and wondered who'd be brave enough to answer first You're not doing anything wrong. You're using your internal muscles as you should do and this is causing the air expulsion. Happens to everyone, at some time or other, pretend it's the horse and stop worrying about it. If you still think this is abnormal think about how many times your horse has started 'farting' when asked to trot, same thing, and lets face it if you're on a mare you aren't questioning where the noise is coming from are you...?

I have to say you are gutsy to post that, bet all the guys are blushing!!And of course with a title like that, they all HAD to read it!! LOL Echo on the first reply. Umm you are probably forcing air into yourself when you post or something dont worry about it, and yeah, blame the horse, they dont care!I have had my horses pass gas, then look at their behinds like "oh my gosh, What WAS that!!" LOL

THANKS so much. I figured it was safer to ask in a forum like this than in person somewhere......anonymity, you know!
Anyway, thanks again.....
Sorry guys........

Can I add another embarrassing female question which I am too embarrassed to ask anyone in person. When it's that time of the month what does everyone do? I have tried tampons but these proved very painful and towels are only marginally less painful (especially if you do a lot of sitting trot) so I am at a bit of a loss and currently just put up with having very sore parts afterwards. Any helpful hints on this??? (very embarrassed)

Hi all!!

Poor Mike having to read this stuff

I don't think I have ever had the air problem, and I am sure I'd remember, well, not from there anyway, although I do often get upset tummies, owing to my love of Mexican food and my stomach's hate of it. These awful odours are blamed on the poor horse, although I don't think people really believe me

I always wear tampons for those rollerbalding wearing white and sky diving days! (as if!) and have never suffered any discomfort - forgot all about it to be honest. The only time I have ever suffered any discomfort is when it had not been put in far enough, and then I could still feel it. Could this be what is wrong JCB ?

Gosh we are getting bold! Well, yet another (fairly embarrassing) problem I have may be a solution to the 'monthly' problem! Because I get very sore in a very private place (obviously sitting wrong) I wear padded incontinence knickers for protection (from Robinsons £7.95 /pair and cheaper and more comfortable than riding ones). They are highly absorbent (well, I guess they'd have to be though of course I have not tested them for that!!!) But I imagine they could double up for periods and you'd avoid having to wear tampons or towels.

Anyone else want to add to this series of posts and lose all credibility with any eligible male riders on this site!!

Clare and Judith thanks for your replies. I think I'll try the incontinence approach!! Could be embarrassing buying them though

At the risk of grossing out all the male readers (and probably some of the female ones) - but in for a penny in for a pound as they say - the problem I find with tampons is not as you suggested Clare but that the string rubs in unfortunate places.

Thanks for the suggestions anyway - I think we'd better change the subject again back to more mundane and less embarrassing subjects.

JCB

Never mind, Diallor- you are in good company!
I have had three students in the last two years who well, shall we just say, suffered from severe flatulence. I have learnt through long experience to ignore such moments, and pretend that it is my Lipizzaner gelding, who is reknowned for the tympanic accompaniments from his nether regions!

I heard a lovely story which puts it all rather into perspective. The Queen was entertaining a foreign head of state and they were proceeding in stately fashion along the Mall in an open carriage. The horse broke wind loudly. The Queen apparently muttered her apologies, whereupon the gentleman having obviously misheard her, said 'Never mind Maam, if you hadn't mentioned it, I would have thought it was the horse!!'

Dear JCB

Just call 01246 220022 and order the 'Activ mini-brief with built in pad'. They're about £7.95/pair and very comfortable. The drag is having to wash them out but washing machines should do the job.

Hope they help!

Judith
