when i got my trailer i did a hgv course for two days and found it invaluable. they made me learn how to reverse into spaces and through chicanes and also drive round narrow lanes/towns etc = things you might avoid doing. this was all before I towed the horse in it.
while yes you can unhitch and turn it manually, it may not always be an option to do so, and it is best to get proper lessons - it cost me and my partner about £100 but it gave us good tuition and also confidence in how to do it.
i am terrified at some caravan drivers who have never had a lesson in their life....they go along far too fast with the caravan wobbling all over the place.
also best NOT to learn from friends or partners. my dad always tries to teach me....not good idea
