Update - Got livery yards coming out of my ears!

It seems that worrying I wouldn't find a place in a good livery yard might be in vain!

Saw a 2nd place last night - more laid back than the first, and a bit cheaper but with guaranteed all year turnout. As a result the fields are in a poorer state, and don't have any shelter. Plus it's further away from where I live (10 miles) and there are lots of youngsters about (people, not horses! .....although there are some incredibly cute foals...). But, it isn't too expensive to put a horse on schooling livery if I end up buying something that needs some extra work!

And.... another place gave me a call back yesterday to say they've got space. Distance-wise it's between the other two, but otherwise I know nothing about it at the moment.

AND..... my previous instructor answered an email and has said she would consider a 'barefoot only' livery. Very tempting as I respect her views, knowledge and ability with horses - but it is 20 miles away, at least half an hour's drive! Plus it can be very quiet - I could see myself hacking out alone a lot....

It's all compromises isn't it? <---- Confused Deb

There's less choice of horses than there is livery yards!!!

I'm very envious of your position, having three or four options to choose from sounds great!

Go see the third one (the one thats between the other two) asap and report back!!

Your previous RI's offer of barefoot only livery sounds good... but it's a long way to go, especially in the winter, and what happens if the horse you buy CAN'T go barefoot for some reason?

Don't you believe it Deb! If you think you are confused now - to quote a famous line... "you ain't seen nuthin yet!!!"

I know it's boring, but see them all, make a list of pros & cons and include things like extra fuel costs and time for the ones a little further out.... I'm sure the right one will become obvious on paper..... you might not have found the right one yet anyway.... it's only been a couple of days!!!

In the meantime, keep us all informed - I feel like I am looking with you

Right-o. I've just spoken to lady at 3rd place to visit. It's actually a stud that also offers livery. 7 miles away, but only 5-10 minute drive. I'm off to see it tomorrow night. I will report back on Thursday!
