New horse Being Bullied

Hi all,

I've had Baron now for officially one week! And I am working slowly with him and we seem to be coming along with our relationship...
What is worrying me is he is being bullied by the other geldings in his field. The whole of last week he was kept in 'quarantine' in a paddock alongside the main field where the geldings are. All seemed well enough.

He has been out with the herd now for 3days (and yes I know that isnt a long time, and Im probably being paranoid) and he keeps coming in with more and more bite marks.
What I need to know is how long do I leave him out there before a) the behaviour might stop, and he will have integrated, or b) decide that I cant take the chance that he will be hurt and either have him put into his own paddock, or try him with the mares?

Any advice would be appreciated (the last horse I had, had the same problems and we put him in with the mares and he was perfectly content! He never put a foot wrong with any of them... if anything the mares put him in HIS place)!

Thanks
LMD

I think it depends upon the personalities of the horses involved whether it will settled in days or weeks. The new horse needs to know where the boundaries lie with regards to the pecking order, he may well be trying to take control and another horse is repremanding him, it will be worth your while observing them in the field to determine who and what the problem is.

Although I have seen this behaviour with mares being territorial but usually I have found geldings not be so concerned.
