Moving to North Carolina

I am moving to Charlotte, North Carolina this weekend and am hoping someone out there can give me information and advice about stables where I can take lessons (hunter/jumpers). I'd love to find a stable with trail access as well and where I could lease a horse and maybe eventuall (gulp) board my own. Thanks!

Sorry, I can't give you any recommendations, but I thought I could at least wish you luck on the move. Maybe you can check with a local tack shop when you get in town. The owner may be able to give you personal recommendations and maybe they'll even stock a local equine paper with advertisements.

Be safe in your travels, and here's to your settling in quickly to your new home.

Hi! I live in the Clayton area (near Raleigh). Although I do not personally know anyone in Charlotte, you might try this web site for help. BarnesPaddock.com (I think that's what she calls it)! The owner's name is Kiersten and she is my teacher. She has moved from Florida to the area 2 years ago. Since she is in the "horse business" she may be able to point you in the right direction! She is also VERY nice and helpful. Good luck in your move and of course, WELCOME TO NORTH CAROLINA!!! It is a great place to live!

Good luck on your move! Will be interested in following your progress since I am just in the beginning stages of transforming my life as well. Seems I remember BW is in North Carolina and owns two horses and rides there. Maybe she can offer advise.

Hi, Debi, and welcome to the Carolinas!
I'm in coastal South Carolina, so still pretty far from Charlotte, but check out this website: http://www.carolinahorse.net

If you click on the Farms listing you'll see lots of places that breed, board, and/or offer lessons.

And I think BW is kind of close to Charlotte - she'd be a good source for you.

Wow Nohorse! I live in Raleigh but work in Smithfield nearby! When I moved here from Philly I found a great place in Knightdale to ride. BTW I love the Smithfield Bar-b-cue!!

Good luck finding a stable Debi. Welcome to North Carolina!! Its a great state. The weather can't be beat and the people are great!

Thanks!

Thanks. I arrived here March 3rd and have already bought my first house (much more reasonably priced than those in San Diego), joined the art musuem and an outdoor adventure club, and, most importantly, found a stable. I had an evaluation lesson last week and will start a dressage class tomorrow night and a jumping class on Thursdays. I have never ridden in a lighted arena or indoor arena before so am looking forward to these new experiences. The cool thing is that by riding in the evening I will have more free time on the weekends which is very useful when you are new to a place. Hopefully, this summer I can find a horse at the stables to part lease. Thanks for all the advice and well wishes!

Debi

Wow, a dressage class and a jumping class; that sounds all so professional and cool! I hope you had a good move, and a fun time at the stables!
