Silky smooth tails...

You may have heard of this trick before but if you haven't....
If you're looking for that show ring shine in your horse's tail without going out and buying hundreds of grooming "miracle" products - spray a little furniture polish in your horse's tail after you wash it. The polish contains silicone which is one of the main ingredients in all those expensive grooming products that claim to detangle and make your horse shine like it never has before! I spray a little into my horse's tail after a good bath, then gently brush it out, braid the tail and put it in a tail bag the night before a show and it works wonders - sometimes I even add a little more the next morning after I take the tail bag off and finish braiding the top of his tail just to make it really glisten.
However, I will caution that you shouldn't use furniture polish as a daily shine enhancer as the silicone can strip the hair of it's natural oils which, in the long run, will result in a thinner tail. As a more regular tail detangler after you bath your horse, try using baby oil - it detangles just as well and creates a good shine but it does weigh the hair down a little which is why I prefer furniture polish for the show ring.
