Horse tails being cut off

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/sussex/8345972.stm

Saw this on the news this lunch time at work! Absolutly horrible and I don't blame the owners for staying out all night to catch the [insert swear here]!!!!!!!

Our horses were shot in the fields once and we stayed up countless nights to try and catch them . We had the BBC up there too look at the wounds but no one got prosecuted for it, the police seemed to be useless.

Soot's yard, I believe. If the owners camped out at length and couldn't even catch the idiots who did this (even when it happened in the nearest field but out of sight and with lots of people on guard), what precisely would you like the Police to do in a 40 acre field in the pitch black?

Sorry to be defensive, but OH in the force and I'm a little concerned at all the poor feeling about horses/police over the time I've been on forums! They're not all two headed demons!

The police hopefully will trace the tails if they are to be sold on and get them!

Unfortunately, you can't get DNA from hair alone so I doubt it.

there isnt a roaring secret trade in tails anyways ... surely they could just get them from the knackerman? and how would they trace them?DNA test every horse tail sold ...where exactly?

angel is fine (thank god!! first time in years she actially has a tail, she usually rubs it off with her sweet itch!), appley's has a bit missing at the top but they didnt get very far with her. its all very disconcerting though, to think someone can just walk in there and tamper with people's horses

It's one the many horse owners nightmares. Knowing that we can't always be with them and that someone could just go up to them in the paddock.

Isn't a coincidence that it has happened just after Halloween? Could it be those who practice witchcraft?

Not having a go, hun, it just seems that the Police are meant to be superheroes and solve every equine crime, but sadly there is very little they can do. They have no idea about horses and ownership issues etc-the amount of times my OH has phoned me to ask if I know to whom certain loose horses belong is silly! Almost invariably, it's the local traveller contingent (who threatened to shoot him when they called him about a problem!)

I've come across a lot of anti police comments to do with horses and frankly, they generally have no idea as they're not specialist and have to deal with zero evidence and difficult circumstances.

I sincerley hope Soot and notpoodle find a solution to keep the pones safe and that this horrible thing stops.
