Today I have had to order my second batch of hay. My two have been on restricted grazing most of the Summer allowed out on the grass whilst I am down there for a few hours, when back on restricted I have given them some Hay. Neither have lost any weight tbh and I kept asking WHY??
BECAUSE I GIVE THEM TOO MUCH DAMN HAY THATS WHY
I have gone thro' 25 bales in less than a Month!!! and even though on restricted they still have grass in their restricted bit plus as I said I let them out on the grass.
The Hay I have is LUSH, but fine and I guess I am guilty of always filling two haynets, sometimes THREE and I am always thinking 'oh, just
a bit more'....its cold, or its wet, or they have to go to the morning, lol.
I am gonna have to 'toughen' up a bit and just leave feeling 'mean' otherwise
its going to be one mighty expensive Winter and I will still have two 'fat' Horses

Think they must be 'laughing' all the way to the Hay Shed
TBH I was a bit embarassed to be ordering my next batch this morning
BUT I really need to 'get real' lol, and stop making excuses for the pair of
PORKERS. Its just that a slice each in the bottom of a haynet looks like
NOTHING...........but at the end of the day one being Welsh x Trad and t'other being
Shetland, they stay FAT on FRESH AIR, without me giving them a Gourmet
Dinner
No wonder they both 'crash out' in the stable at night, they must both
be sooooooooo full up

Oh Fairlady what are you like??? Tut tut (hee hee) I know what you mean but you will have to be strict with yourself. How much do you pay for hay? I have been let down by my farmer who I have used for 12 years. I usually order a year's supply of hay but this year I decided I would just buy as and when I need and because I never phoned him, he thought I had another supplier and said he could not accommodate me!! I have to say though that his son has taken over the business and appears to be less helpful. I would have paid about £2.25 a bale back in the summer for hay off the field and now its going to cost me £3.50 a bale from another supplier!!! And the straw is £2.00
Well I have to say I am very very lucky, which is probably WHY I have
been a bit indulgant
I buy my hay from my Mates Hubby who is a Farmer and he charges me
£2 per bale and it really is the most 'gorgeous' stuff......
EVEN SO........he can only let me have 100 bales, maybe a few more at
a push so I really need to get to grips with the fact I am well overfeeding
them I do have another supplier if I needed it though and although his Hay is nice, its nowhere near 'as nice', and he charges £3.50 per bale. He, the second supplier, also charges £2.50 for STRAW!!! Think I need to give them a bit more grass and far less HAY!!
From TODAY they really are going to be a bit more 'restricted'

I'm gonna have to restrict Amee's hay, she is a real pudding at the moment.
While she is in livery for the week, I have suggested they put her on the horse walker every day, all day Well I will leave it to them to decide for how long!
That pony could live on fresh air and still be a weeble.
I find it really hard when there is no grass in the paddocks not to give too much hay. I hate seeing horses standing around doing nothing. Heads down munching is such a lovely sight.
I'm going to have to toughen up.
