I could cry, ale had a very slightly puffy eye this morning, bathed it but it didn't seem to be bothering him too much.

Came back a few hours later to check on him and obviously was sore and he had been scratching. He's scratched part of his cornea now.

Called the vet as soon as I saw it and they've administered steroids and antibiotic drops. Kicking my self that I didn't get them out this morning.

Ales got 3 hours cross tied and then I need to move all his fencing so he can't scratch on anything. However he could still scratch on his leg so I'm really worried :(

Poor boy is just starting to come round from the anesthetic looking very sore and unhappy :(

Oh no. So sorry to hear this. Lots of stay calm vibes for him and healing. Is he in his field or have you access to a box - I can't remember?

Very bored sitting here watching him whilst he's cross tied. But if it stops the eye from itching then well worth it!

Thank-you for your sympathies, really gutted but fingers crossed he will be okay in a week!

Oh buggeration, healing vibes coming his way.
Just to add, if it was just a fat lid from a bug bite I wouldnt have called the vet either, you had no way to know he'd itch it so badly x

Thank-you everyone. I had a look in it first thing and could see nothing, no discharge either.

He's happy enough munching for now but it looks very sore. What's concerning me the most is it looks a little cloudy when I open it to put the drops in. Soaking all his hay for a few days keep any dust away from it and just pray that when I let him go in an hour he doesn't try and scratch it again! Don't know what I will do if he does!

Sure he will be ok Ale :)

Finn did a similar sort of injury to his eye a few years ago, his eye went like a golf ball and it was cloudy for a week or so

I had his fly mask on him whilst it healed and sowed some black material over the side where his injured eye was. The vet said the scratched cornea would heal better if not in direct contact with the sun.

He made a full recovery within a week or so though so try not too worry too much xx

Hopefully Ale will be ok. Don't beat yourself up about not getting the vet out first thing, I think i would have waited to see too, especially with it being a Sunday..

I used a fly mask when Cally had a sore eye and it did seem to protect it. Hope Ale feels much better soon.

I would pop a fly mask on. It might stop him rubbing directly. Plus it will stop dirt getting in. Sometimes the drops and creams can attract dirt as they are wet and sticky.

Vet said not to put a fly mask on as knowing him he will scratch it into his eye.

Looks alot better today but obviously still sore and he's very hard to get the drops in so I'm not sure how many I'm actually getting in there!!
