Horsey headaches

It doesnt seem out of the question to me to offer a share and stipulate that that would include a lesson with the horse's own trainer.
What I would love at the moment is to share a horse for one dressage lesson each week, plus schooling and hacking. I even saw that advertised on Facebook and it was too far from where we live.
But if one cropped up near us, I would take it.
5 years old is younger than I would share and the problem could be that if a skilled sharer schooled your horse to a good level, they would want to go on with it as a mature horse and possibly compete it too. I got fed up working with one RS pony and as soon as we got to novice tests, finding that he was removed from me and I had to start over with a new arrival. But if you were near me, I guess we might work something out.
My other feminist suggestion is to get yourself your own car. My car is 16 years old and quite good enough to drive to the yard and back. It would cost you the insurance and licence but some of my elderly friends including my s..i.l. also believe their lives depend on having a car of their own to live independently of their OH.

Well what a shame that you don't live nearby @Skib!
It wouldn't be a problem for me if someone did want to compete on her, in fact I would be delighted and go & watch in full support!
The only thing stopping us from a 2nd car is financial. We already have 3 horses on full livery, 2 of which are retired, adding in the cost of another car would make them even more expensive horses! Maybe if the £/€ ever recovers we could do that:rolleyes:

In your situation I really would try and move your horse(s) closer to home. I understand your OH's viewpoint and it must be difficult trying to juggle cars etc. when you share one. There must be alternatives which are nearer to you? Would your OH be happier if you rode 5 times at week at the RS which is 15 mins away? He could drop you off and then pick you up sometimes? Are there any private livery yards nearer that you haven't considered? I know that it would be a shame losing your RI, but there are plenty of others out there and you should be able to find someone else to help you.

As for working your horse everyday, I think that this is a very individual thing. If your horse is better behaved and calmer if ridden at least 5 times per week, then this is what you need to do. I personally think that it is very difficult to find an ideal sharer and I know several people who would ideally like a sharer but have given up because it was just too much hassle.

Good luck with whatever you decide.
