electric fence unit

I am moving to a new yard next week and down one side of our field is electric fence. We need to supply a unit but i have no idea what to get. I have a naughty cob who doesnt always understand. Do i get a 1.2j output or 1.5j there are so many opinons and a lesuire battry 12v. can anyone recommend what they use

the one that gives the most bang! ours only seem to respect those on mains

The joules is how big the zap is, so if he’s likely to push it, go for the biggest you can find. Also get a bigger earth stake than the one supplied, or two or three smaller ones, the little 30cm ones are rarely enough alone. Also check the fence is in good condition, the wires in it break down easily especially if it’s been left to flap in the wind, then it won’t work well.

I have a voss implus duo, which is equally as effective weather running on mains or battery, at 5.0j it cured my Shetlands Houdini aspirations!
