Dapple Greys

does anyone have any picks of their dapple greys?
also do sunflower seeds help them to keep their dapples?
is their anything else you can give them to help keep dapples?

I think dappling is more than just a phase but I'm not sure how it relates to genetics etc. Many solid coloured horses can get dapples, not just greys but these used to be known as hammer marks.
my pony was very dark dapple when younger with black points, greying out over the body but not the points or mane and tail, but finally that greyed out too and now at 12yo she is going flea bitten with red. Aparently the colour of the fleabites are the same as the colour she was as a foal!!

I've seen a bay or two and a palomino with what I'd consider "dappling" as well, mostly around the barrel area. Both are boarded at the same farm as our girl is. I'm not sure if that's unusual or not though...?

Most dapple horses turn white after a while, I think?
I've seen pictures of Cobweb when he was a few weeks old and his dapples were almost black, now he's a dark grey.
You can also see dapples when skye is washed, but she is so old that they've whited out.

this is my pony Loki he is about 5 years old (possibly 6) and he is already lighter than when I bought him a year ago. These are all recent pics. pparently whe he was very young he was almost black

Unfortunately a dapple grey will eventually grey out.

Unfortunately there's nothing you can do to keep dapples on a grey. Dapple is just a phase of greying, and the dapples will just fade over time until the horse ends up white.

and now she looks like this, and the fleabites are now becoming so numerous that we can see her freezemark again!

as chev says, i'm afraid there is nothing you can do to keep them or prolong them. just take plenty of photos while you still have them!

I love dapples, Nelson had about 6 and that was it...he is almost white, even his spots are fading Black ones anyway I also like fleabittens too though and as Nelson already has a handful at 2, almost 3, im hoping he will be very well fleabitten

well im not sure but i have seen ALOT of other colours with dapples....mainly in summer. i think its more apparent when they are younger 2. my mum has pics of her horse when she was 3 and she had dapples and she was a dark bay. now at 19 you can only just see them if ou look long enough. my horse has dapples in summer aswell and she is dark bay too but she is only 8 so quite young.
lol this doesn't answer u at all but thought i would share and to point out

My youngser used to be quite a dark dapple grey when I first bought him as a 4 year old! Now, a year later he is much, much lighter and some of his dapples and his black tummy are beginning to fade...shame really because I love dark dapple greys!

Soda last year, the day after I bought him, as a 4 year old. (Ignore me)!

Soda a couple of weeks ago at the meet at our yard.

ETA: his manes faded a lot too! It used to be blcak, now it's a whitey/pale grey colour!
