Need to get bute into one of the horses on the yard- just one little sachet a day for the next week- shouldn't be so hard right!

So far i have tried:
Apples and carrots taking the core out and putting powder in
Pureeed apples and carrots
Sugarbeet
Honey
Various sandwiches

And it's only day 2!!!!!! So far horse is winning
Am going to try to get some pure mollasses today and lob in it that but any other fool proof ideas?

I don't want to go down the route of syringing it into his mouth as in a few days he will wise up to that and be a monster to worm for ever more- he is just ok to worm as it is and i really don't want to make that any worse if i can help it!

I had the same problem with my horse a while ago when he had to have bute, and my vet changed him over to "Danillon Equidos" which is an alternative to bute. Its granulated and much more palatable and he will eat a feed with danillon in it no problem whereas he would have turned his nose up at one with bute in it.

Apparently Danillon is also kinder to their insides than bute too!:)

Sounds daft, but when I had to give bute twice a day to a pony, I mixed it with Angel Delight made with water. It was recommended to me and I can in turn recommend it.

Just feed from a small bowl (or big syringe). Butterscotch was a favourite flavour.

I used to soak feeds with lots of either apple juice or orange juice. That always worked with mine when I'd tried most other things :)

Lucky that the 3 we have now , if we have had to feed it have no problem just sprinkle in Feed, wet and mix and they eat it.

The TB we had on the otherhand was a nightmare, in the end did the same as above but would have to forceably handfeed it, open mouth, put in mouth and after a few spit outs and reattempts he would take it, after a couple of days he would give up and eventually was okay until the next course he needed and you would have to go through it all again.

I'd agree with the syringe, IMO it's the only way to guarantee you get at least some of it down them. otherwise you are relying on them being interested in whatever concoction you have made for them.

I've tried all of the above with ziz - over a period of 3 days -not one thing worked. Tried jam sandwiches, marmite and every fruit juice sold in my local supermarket.

The vets took pity on me and moved us to Danilon, no problems at all with that.:D

hi

my poor boy is on one to two aday and the only way he eats it i put it on his apples and pear with his feed then with your hand mix it all so your mushing it together and then put his sugerbeet on top , i tried putting inside the apples? ended up on floor.. my bobs eat his fruit first so i no hes getting the bute, hope this works for you fingers x

We had one on bute for about 3 months.
Syringe and yogurt is the only way to go!

Petit Filous fromage frais in strawberry to be precise! They were the ones he didn't look at us like we were poisining him with!!

Try Danilon instead :)

I've also used apple puree in a large syringe with the tip cut off to make the hole bigger, the horse didn't seem to mind.
