new member intro

Yes IN is Indiana. Jane nailed it. Very flat and nothing to stop the wind from screaming through. I think the temperature extremes are due to living too far from any ocean that would moderate things and make it a more temperate climate. Come to think of it, I'm not sure why I even live hereo_O.

I'm more impressed with Rusty's hardiness everyday. As long as he doesn't get soaking wet he seems fine. I do leave him in if it is too windy and cold though, but I might not need to. Most of the time he would just rather be out. He has never been rugged. I don't think he needs it. I would give anything (well, good money anyway) to know what kind of pony he is. Probably a mix, but I'd like to know of what. I'm just curious and want to know everything about him. I don't know how to get pictures up here, but am trying to figure it out. My husband thinks we can get them from my phone onto Facebook and then transfer them from there. I'm not what you would call computer literate but I learn more everyday.

I have had Rusty about 1 1/2 years. I hope he feels lucky. He would like another pony to play with/boss around but he is going to have to wait til I am done with nursing school in a couple of years. Right now he has a goat as a buddy but they aren't as close as I wish they were.

Mark Rashid sounds great. I'll have to look into him.

Hi and welcome to NR :) Rusty sounds a little rascal but a lot of fun!
If you want to attach pictures (we all love pictures) put the photo's from your phone onto your desk top on your PC or laptop, then, start as if you are writing a post at the bottom next to the tab called post reply is another tab in a greyish colour called upload a file which will open a new window so you can 'open' the files from there and attach. I don't think I've explained that too well have I???

Finally got some pictures up!!! I hope you like him. Am I too big for him? Any guesses as to to his breed or his mix of breeds?

Hello! I am another adult who rides a pony, although admittedly mine is 14.2hh so NEARLY a horse! Ha! Welcome to the forum. Rusty sounds both a character and a handful!

Is there Welsh in there?
He looks like a hardy native type, and 10 stone is not big, I'm sure he'll be fine carrying you. He is v cute!

He is a really cute little fuzzball and looks brimful of character! No idea what his mix is - I'd call him a "coloured native pony" meaning no idea!

Not a problem !! I think we have all been there!
Hi and welcome. I know how you feel. I waited all my life to own my own horse. 16.3 sports horse, she's nearly 17 but thinks she's a 7yr old most of the time. Can't wait to hear all about your horsey adventures and see your pictures. I'm still trying to figure that out also [emoji4] [emoji4]

Strictly the US have no native ponies or horses either! There were no horses on the American continent when the first European explorers arrived. All horses there are descendants of European imported (and escaped) horses.

My oldest daughter took the pictures for me and helped me get them up. Just wanted to give her credit and and say thanx, especially since it was so cold.

I always thought Rusty probably has some Shetland in him. I hope so as they are so hardy and strong. Maybe if you crossed a Welsh and a Shetland together you'd get something that looks like Rusty? I'll be sure and post more pictures when he sheds his winter coat and I can get him all trimmed up nice, just so you can really see him. Will probably never know his breeding, but maybe I can get in touch with the dealer who had him couple of years ago and find something out. I'm so curious.

Thank you for all your nice comments. This seems like a very friendly group.

Hi :)
Rusty is ADORABLE!!!! you defo dont look too big for him.I love his colouring too. I ride a 14.1 pony and am 5.6.dont think it really mattters about size, as long as the match is right :) Ye look very well together.

Tiamaria Lady, thank you for our kind words. I hope to start riding him again soon. So glad everyone says I'm not too big for him. He certainly doesn't have any trouble carrying me, but I still worried about it.

Your horse looks beautiful! My old horse was a 1/2 Arab and he was the size of yours.

Hello! Welcome to NR - I'm quite new myself but had to say how adorable Rusty is!!!;) Sounds like he keeps you entertained too :p
