I decided to ride my mums horse. Hes been out of work for a year and half. Previously had two riders (my mum doesnt ride him) that seem to have caused him some issues, when i got on he was petrified! Spinning in a circle, almost acked us both in to the fence, walking sideway... So i just sat untill he realised i wasn't actually doing anything and he had worked himself up. Waited for him to take a step forward and praised him for it.

Then he clicked, forward was the way. So i did two large circles on each rein which he did very well and responded well thenendedit with lots of praise, as i took my feet out if the stirrups i caught m with my foot and he flinched and started his panic breathing again :( so i made sure he knew how good he had been. Was only him for about 10/15 minutes but that was enough for him today. Baby steps!

Pleased with how well he did though and i survived haha and (forgot this bit had to edit) my cobs field runs up one side and one end of the school so in protest he was running round and squealing his head off think it was a "give me my human back" protest haha and my mums horse (called willow btw) was still good and didnt get distracted by the white cob throwing a tantrum!

Maybe the problem was he hasn't been ridden for a year and a half rather than the other riders causing some issues? I've known a lot of horses that would do more than that after that long off, though also some that you'd never guess they hadn't been ridden the day before. I'm glad he settled though, are you going to keep riding him?

Glad it went well, but if a horse is that scared I wouldn't want to be on board to be honest.
I like to do my groundwork, build up some muscle needed to carry me and assess. Some you can just throw a saddle on and get on with it but some throw you back off again.

Weve been doing ground for the a few weeks now, some ground work with tack too. Ground works my favourite tbh! He was fine once he realised forward is the way, hence why i kept it so short and finished with him doing really good and a ton of praise

actually had to do alot with him, standing at gate ways because soon as a gate was open he eas charging through rather than standing and waiting till human gave the que, working on him picking his feet up not snatching them away and trying to walk away from being tied up and getting bargy around food, taking humans grass skiing when he was being led, All turned completely his ground manners are again impeccable

Thats why he wasnt riddeb because the girl decided to leave and the other was with my brother but they split and after that i went to ride him and couldnt get near him with tack, that was about a week after, he freaked. Yes i am going to keep riding him just short sessions in the school like today first off
