Rhythm beads

Someone bought me some for Raf a couple of years ago and I'm ashamed to say I've rarely used them. They are beautiful, but Raf is a fantastic happy hacker anyway, so I don't need any aids to help him settle. In fact they unnerved him a bit the first time I tried them, probably wondered why the funny noise was following him ...

For me, their only use would be to decorate my horse. I meant to use them for the endurance pleasure rides as that's the sort of occasion where I'd 'dress up' like that, but I don't think I went on any last year.

They're not specifically for hacking, but it's basically a necklace or mane clip of beads that clink together as the horse moves and the noise is meant to help horse and rider get a better rhythm.

I was thinking of trying some as jess is full of piss and wind at the moment and is tending to rush, I can check her but I don't like to be a nag and have to keep doing it :) I also want to start low intensity lunging but right now I know she would do a mad galloping motor bike going round corners impression if I tried  so wondered if these might engage her brain a little :p

I use them on my cob, he used to be so off balance in trot and canter and he gets so distracted he forgets what his legs are doing! If theres a tractor 6 fields away hes too busy watching it and ends uo tripping! Trios over fresh air! Trios over his own shadow! Lol. Someone suggested rhythm beads and they work great for him, also stooped him trotting with one end and cantering with the other

Heard of them and I did think initially mine would be annoyed by this.
She does wear and ignore a reflective martingale. So my thinking is this would be be soon ignored. I actually think I would break them by getting mixed up what's she's wearing.
If it's windy you won't hear them, but the horse still might? If it's really windy it's hard enough for me to hear my own voice aids. She does have a 'deaf card' that she uses too. :D

I will pull some out and play in the
Cavaletti pen with and without them
And see if there is any difference.

Just thought of this though.

I work him on voice commands and if on line in Outside areas or in of the rd pen
Freelonging I stay facing one direction.
I do NOT turn around with him.

My expectation is for him to continue the same gait even passing behind me continuously til I change it.

This would be something good for someone just lesrning/TEACHING this.

Having beads on you can HEAR if he is maintaining gait behind YOU.

It won't be today though yesterday and today are rainy and omg pea soup fog.
Later today will turn to really heavy rain with really bad winds.

Years ago at a place I had Andi for training.
We had rhythm beads on.
I was told to take them off and not use them unless I was alone.

So a good training thing with friends could
Be to play with some to be sure your HORSE is fine with someone else's horse
Having them on.

When ever you get a chance :D

Jess won't be worried by them, she doesn't fuss about much, the first time I wore a plastic poncho while on her we were hours from home and it started tipping down, I pulled it out of my saddle bags and put it on, then cantered all the way to our camp site for the night with it flying out behind like some kind of super hero cape :D she's pretty good about things generally :p

Did you have your Wonder Woman outfit on too @Jessey? I think it would look good on a galloping chestnut steed ...

It is definitely a positive to hear the sound and that it was nice and even.

I had him in the big rd pen after but omg he got sooooooooo
silly in there and the footing was not great.

I'm going to play some more in the cav rd pen later but
I'm not going to try to use the beads again today
its just too windy and he is getting too silly.
If he gets too silly in the cav pen ill cut it short i don't want the
footing in there messed up too.

The footing in my little ring was actually pretty good though.
This was a BIG MISTAKE!!!
