She's always been wiley, but for the last couple of years I've put her out in the morning and she couldn't get in until I let her in at night which she loved (hated when she had to stay in with her poorly foot last year) and she'd just snuggle up with me at night.

I thought she would love the new house as there's a cat flap, well she loves it a bit too much, she now hardly goes out :( even when she does she comes back to use the litter tray  and all the time inside means she is full of herself and being a pain in the neck o_O climbing the furniture/curtains (and me) and tearing around like a looney

The first week she damaged the living room carpet by clawing it (thankfully only a little pull in the corner), she's used the banister as a climbing game and scratched all the wood pretty badly top to bottom  pulling out the kitchen bin  and now she's stealing food off the kitchen counters  (she has dry food down all the time). I could throttle her! And I thought cats were meant to be easy

Little rebel. Your new landlords not going to be too happy. You'll be having to decorate before you move out this house. I can see the funny side. A friend of mine had 3 indoor cats. They used to bounce off the walls they had so much pent up energy.

Could you move the tray to by the flap and then gradually move that to the outside?

Are you describing a Bengal :D
I did that and had it outside for a couple of days, but the weather turned wet and even though its a hooded one it ended up sopping so brought it back in. I will do it again though.
She's no Bengal, just a moggie, but I think either mum or dad must have been feral. She's normally out hunting all day.

Cant you shut her out before you leave in the morning and then unlock the cat flap when u go so she is in and out all day when u arent there and put her out for a bit again when u come back... Cats are never easy ours was so naughty! He would vanish for a day or two, always return with a live mouse or bird and then let it go in the house "got u a present guys!!" When the ice cream van came he would stand there with the kids (outside our house) waiting for drops of ice cream! Had to put him out when we was eating our tea because he would be sneaky and at your legs and all of a sudden a paw would come up and swipe something off the plate and he would happily eat whatever it was he had got anything from meat to chips to veg to even a cream crack once! No cats are not easy! Lol

She probably doesn't have any territory outside yet so is staying inside for that reason. Do you have a day in the house coming up anytime soon? Then you could lock her out but still be there to let her in if she comes running being chased by another cat!

I'm not a cat person but years ago my first husband who was a cop brought home 2 orphaned raccoon babies.

They acted a lot like cats climbing curtains playing with the bottom and
Shreading them.

If they got a cabinet open they would
Toss Everything out

They got onto a shelf of pantry items going up the stairs to the attic.
Omg WHAT A MESS.
Most oils etc back then were in glass bottles and ketchup etc etc too.

I have no idea how they got that door open.

I came back inside to olive oil ,ketchup ugh you name it running down the stairs.

The 2 little brats looked very pleased with themselves.

They were cute but I was happy when they were old enough to have a nice tree house.

They stayed friendly outside til they were
Mating maturity sadly over a period of time they CAME back less and less for their food making their way in the wild.

It was sad when they stopped coming
Back.
We did save them but they are not and should not be pets.

I know someone whose cat is well and truly in the dog house today. I went to work today and one of the people I work for told me there cat had wee'ed all over the dining table again this morning. It had loads of important paperwork laid out on it as it happens as they use it for there office work.
I was looking after there cats over Christmas and one of there cats did it then on the pile of paperwork. They have litter trays but for some reason it choose the table. Think it's stress or territory as there next door neighbour has a new cat and apparently it's been in through the cat flap a few times. They even found it upstairs asleep on the bed.

Now you say that, laying here awake at silly o'clock the other morning I heard the cat flap go, worrying about intruders still I went to check I hadn't left the keys in the door and as I got down stairs I heard crunching like cat biscuits being eaten (cali was up on my bed) and as I put the light on the cat flap clacked again, I suspect a cat had come in for a snack. I've been locking the cat flap at night since.

Tomorrow the litter tray is going outside, hopefully it will help her figure it out.

Yes these people have been locking the flap at night on there's. They both seemed stressed today when I was there. The other was even pulling it's fur out over Christmas. Mind both are big whimps. I've suggested they get a microchip cat flap. Some one else I know says they brought one for there cats and it keeps the neighbours cats out.
