2018 Hacking/Riding challenge........ Add your photos and join in open to anyone.

Today we did another hours hack of just over 2 miles. That just seems such a slow pace, I know we are only walking but it still seems incredibly slow.

Today was uneventful. Ben was lovely and well behaved. As we were coming back to the yard down the long drive (which I only started riding down last week), a vet who was visiting another horse stopped to tell me how lovely and chilled out Ben was and said he looked completely content with life. That made my day.

Total hacking since 3rd July 2018
2 hours and 2 minutes
4.3 miles

We did 60 mins and 2.1 miles on Thursday and 60 mins and 2.6 miles today. All in walk.

Thursdays hack was interesting. Whilst riding past the only house on our route, 2 dogs came running out followed by a lady running after them. She wanted to introduce her dogs to Ben as one was a puppy who had never seen a horse before. Ben was perfect, stood as solid as a rock and I didn’t turn into a bag of nerves. Progress is being made.

Total since 3rd July
4 hours 2 mins
8.9 miles

Sonny unmounted 53.00rs
mounted 6.00 hrs

Andi unmounted 5.75hrs

It seems like forever to do much its been sooooooooooo hot here
Last sunday was 96f and another 95f day heat indexes were thru the roof at 108f and its been in the high 80s it seems like forever:(..

Its finally got a break yesterday with humidity down and temps only high 70's.

I played in the little cavaletti pen with sonny its gotten rather deep and its the first time im trying it out with the added wood and wire on the goats side set back 18 inches.
It was just panel but the smaller goats need wire as well but since sonny tends to jump and kick out and really get a little wild in there I cant chance him hitting a wire fence and this is one of my favorite little play pens especially in winter.
It worked out really good.
Then I took
Andi on a walkabout played with the cavaletti on the side of the blueberries and let her eat some tall grass near the wall towards Virginia where she cant actually see over there then in the front yard where she CAN SEE OVER THERE.

I was not sure how that was gonna go but hopefully that love affair with the pony is DONE.
I DID NOT get any nonsense from her.
As I was out there I thought ohhh  I hope she does not start a big carry on since I don't have gloves with me.

She was such a good girl. I was proud of her:);):D.

Sorry I haven't posted in well over a month! There have been a couple of weeks where I haven't ridden due to being away and also due to the heat. There are two rides I haven't entered, one of them I forgot to track but estimate it was about 5k in an hour, the second was 7.4km in 1hr30mins. Both of those rides were actually really fun with some great canters. I've been working on standing in my stirrups in canter to make life easier and am just trying to build confidence doing that at the moment.

Have to admit I've really been struggling in the heat, I was outdoors volunteering all morning up until about 1pm so by the time I got round to riding I wasn't really feeling it, and I didn't want to overdo it for my share's sake either. We just rode for 20 minutes in walk today around the track at the yard with a grand total of 1.7km :D

Totals 95.92km in 21hrs 5mins plus 200 minutes schooling.

This weekend was moving day for Harvey (see another post shortly) so I only managed a slow walk around the block on Saturday morning :)

Hacking

Heat is back sigh for 2 days.:(.
I could never survive Florida heat and humidity.

Yesterday was not too too horrible managed a bit of play.

Sonny was full of himself and its soooooooooo good we did the second fencing out from the rd pen panels.
It worked good yesterday with him hoolying about.

Andi was a very good girl too in there.
I did leave a halter on her normally I woluld not play at liberty with one but being the grass is deep and has lots of clover in there I did not want the to have to worry to catch her when we were done.

We are carrying on with our approximately one hour hack per day, and will do for the next 8 weeks. My confidence varies, sometimes (like yesterday) it is sky high and I can go that little bit further without feeling nervous, and sometimes (like today) everything seems scary because there is a little bit of wind. I wish that I could be rational and control my nerves much better.

I am surprised that in one week we have covered over 15 miles though. This is all at walk and a pretty slow walk at that. It goes to show that it all adds up.

Total hacking between 3rd July and 10th July:
7 hours 12 mins
15.5 miles

Done a fair bit of hacking with whisks unfortunately same old story I'm just so rubbish at keeping track of it haha

Whisks is having a wee rest now after Annan r.o.m before the hack back home.
So glad I decided to not let my friend take Ringo. Poor wee guy would of died! 25miles in about 6 hours and that was going easy, so many people fell off through the fields and gallops that those of us at the back were told to take it canny.

Got plenty of riding in this week... Not all good!

Monday absolutley stupid cob! Spooking at cracks in the road (same road same cracks for last two years) a twing, pile of grass, every bird and butterfly!

Tuesday - same route... Perfectly fine!

weds - day off

Thursday - spooking again! Was cooler so did a longer hack to try burn some energy but spooked the whole 7/8 mile hack at everything! Grass flat in places, the sound of his own hooves when we went off the grass to concrete, the bridle way signs (which hes seen all off before)

Friday - fine again!

yesterday - fine again!

no changes in anything, so i cant work out whats going on with him

Did some dressage (good horse, sack the jockey for going wrong twice!!):

And we have given up on the school (too dry and deep) so have been playing in the field:

However, I did get brave in the 1st weekend of the warm weather:

And Mr Whippy too!! Fab!!

Not much to report, did exactly the same route as last week around the track at the yard as it was almost 30°C even at 6.30 in the evening! Have to admit I'm getting a bit fed up of the heat now, I know I should be grateful after the awful wet winter but it's just not conducive to riding!

The share was a right pain on the ground for some reason, I hesitated when I first went in the stable and think I came across as scared and after that he was just taking the mickey. Perhaps the heat was affecting him too. Hopefully back to normal next week, he is a really honest horse and never puts a foot wrong so I don't know why we have these moments other than it all being in my head!

Total was 1.7km in 20 minutes.

Totals 96.99km in 21hrs 25mins plus 200 minutes schooling.

I arrived at the yard on Saturday to hear that Harvey had been bucking and rearing and cavorting around the field which didn't sound ideal for my first hack out. I decided to go anyway and had a reasonably calm if a little spooky hack around mostly at walk. Sunday was a bit hotter so I decided to do more or less the same route again, but in walk. Harvey had other ideas - as sonn as he was on the (unsuitable for cantering) bridleway he took off in canter. I decided to let him havea bit of a run to get it out of hist system which he soon did.

Back in his field after a hose down

He was actually calm enough for me to grab a photo...
