So I am thinking of buying a new headcollar for Freya, my mums Connemara, as part of her xmas prezzie. We have been using rope halters for years but my mum has decided it's easier for her hands to change to a standard headcollar.
I have a few Tekna ones on my shelf, the cob is a little too tight on her but the full is too big. Those of you with Connemaras, what size headcollar do you use and is there a brand that fits them the best? She is 6, 14.2 and in a 5ft9 rug, I'm hoping she's stopped growing now.

Also anyone know of any nice quality leather headcollars, I'm thinking a plaited or braided one might be nice. Must have a throat clip so she doesn't have to fiddle with a buckle to get it on and off.

Thanks all :)

If your mum still likes rope for the finite control but finds the knot fiddly then she needs one with a buckle like mine. The bit over the poll ends in a loop, you stick it through the hole and onto the hook, releasing it is super easy but I have never had one undo itself, I find it easier than a regular head collar to undo. I am racking my brains for what they are called but can't remember, I think Stacey Westfall's halters have them on as standard.

Quick google, they are called a halter hook :) They might be easier for her as she wouldn't even have to fiddle getting a clip undone.

I don't have any recommendations just wanted to say Hi and welcome back, good to see you back here, hope you and your herd are all well. :)

I'll look and see what brand Storm's is. It's been on the go years lol I swapped it with someone on here, many many years ago in exchange for a Caldene gilet:D

Just thought I would do an update, I managed to get a couple of rope halters from Kramer with the halter hooks on them (on sale as well :D ) They arrived today, I've relocated one of the clips to Kiki's current halter, but Freya and my mum get the other one. They seem really easy to use so should work for someone who is having difficulty with some arthritis in their hands.
Size wise, I bought the cob size, I tried one of them on Kiki and Freya, who both have small full size heads and they fit pretty well, there's lots of adjustment left on the headpiece, but might not be great for those with wider noses.

You can normally adjust the size buy moving the knots round, it's pretty easy, just takes a bit of fiddling :)

I tried to move a knot on Kiki's current halter to put the halter hook the other way around, but it wouldn't budge, do you prize them apart with something?

Once they've been used a while it can be difficult, a hoof pick will sometimes budge them.
