2018 Hacking/Riding challenge........ Add your photos and join in open to anyone.

A very horsey Christmas for me. Over the last few weeks both grooms at the stables resigned, and then one of the replacements was in a car accident. The YO has had an operation and isn't yet fully operational. To cut a long story short this left the YO with no grooms for Christmas Day or Boxing Day. We had nothing major planned so I volunteered to be stand in groom. It was actually a fun way to spend Christmas. There are 6 horses, but one of the liveries came and mucked out her own so we have 6 to turn out, but only 5 to muck out. I did 3 so only 2 extra really. We (YO and I) managed to ride at lunchtime both days (just in walk as she really insn't supposed to be riding).

Wow - he IS quite big, isn't he? Must feel high up after Storm

Yeah he's a tiny bit over 17hh, tbh he is reallyMr T's horse, but he lets me potter on him too:)he does feel quite big, my main problem is getting off without hurting my feet (used to hopping off 15hh) and I have plantar facilitis atm

I've just tallied up my work for the boys.
Billy was worked 225 days this year.
Chunky was worked 186 days this year.

That's either lunging, inhand walk out, long reining, riding or driving.
On only 90 days of the year I did no exercise at all. 30 of those were in January when I turned them both away due to the horrible situation at the yard.

Not a bad way to finish the year. Saturday was warm and dry so Harvey and I had a trip up the local hill. He was in high spirits (!!) and our short canter turned into a short gallop, and than prancing the whole way home. Sunday was just a quick trip round the block with YO - I was going to school after but my back was aching so I decided it wasn't a good idea.

Hacking

Totals for the year :) Not bad as I only rode once until mid March.

I lost track and I know my totals won't be anywhere near the rest of us on this thread, but I've enjoyed it all the same:)

And enjoying it is what its about (for me anyway) - seeing what other people are doing with their horses and sharing their triumphs and disasters week by week. I like to add the totals just for myself.

Well done all for your riding and groundwork exploits over the year! I'm really hoping that we'll start a fresh one tomorrow and that I'll be able to add lots of posts after my virtually non-existent riding this year!!!

Happy New Year everyone :)

We've spent the Christmas Break in the best possible way - lots of hacking, a polework clinic today & another hack planned tomorrow.

I'm ending our 2018, grateful Pete and I were able to navigate this polework beast without falling flat on our faces ... :D

WE had a play day set for today first of the new year FIRST DAY of the new year but
winds are VERY VERY BAD :( already and its just getting light out.
Shortly they will be going over 50 mph gusts:eek::eek:o_Oo_O that's not a day to play or ride safely no matter how good your horse is. At the end of the day they are not ROBOTS and as good as they are sometimes its just not safe.

WE have set up for a play day tomorrow.

Woo hoo to everyone that gets a ride or play in today.
LOL who will be the first to post for 2019??????:p:p:p:D:D:D
