2019 Hacking/Riding Thread

A very chilly 4.5 miles around the "small" lake (it's the smallest of three but hardly tiny ....!) with my Mum and the dog for company.

Hope everyone that wanted to was able to get out riding today!

Sonny unmounted 1.0 hrs
mounted .75 hrs

Well we did get heavy heavy rain it stopped over nite but got cold quite quickly
Lots of frozen gate latches and very slippery steps.
Now the winds it tried to get sunny for a little bit now clouding up for a few snow showes
that wont amount to much.

I did some liberty in the cavaletti pen early setting up my pool noodle oblstacle
and some valentines stuff.

I only have 6 noodles to last me til warmer weather when they are for sale again
so im being careful and not leaving htem out.
.I did leave the little wreath things on the fence to see how they do in the winds today and they are zip tied on so we will see.

Sonny was a really good boy no silly stuff and played touche it with the wreaths and on puddle had iced over but it was surfaIMG_6923.JPGIMG_6863.JPGIMG_6943.JPGIMG_6876.JPGIMG_6946.JPGIMG_6908.JPGce ice not solid thru that would be slippery to walk on
he punched thru which is what I wanted. He took a look first then went right over.
But anything not find around to play with is something differnet.:)

He was totally full of mud again so jIMG_6950.JPGust as well I was not planning to ride :p
IMG_6961.JPGIMG_6955.JPG
I cant put anyting on the fence on the goats side little nosey noses love to grab and chew things...

Still snow turning to rain due for Tuesday ugh. It may totally mess up our play day
withToni .:(

.

Spent another five miles exploring some new routes on foot with the boyfriend, so can't wait to get out there in the saddle soon!

2019 totals:

Hacking: 18.5 miles
Schooling: 40 minutes
Groundwork: 35 minutes

Im always late to the party
Finally managed a very short 3 mile hack yesterday. I wish the mornings would hurry up and get lighter so I can get out earlier and go further.
Also kept it short as Belle now doesn't have shoes on and while her fronts are booted I worry about the backs 'wearing out' she on the other hand really wasn't bothered one bit, had to bring Mr KR for company though as since I've not been riding much and she's been a bit too boingy for my liking I just needed some moral support, I'm a bit gutted as my confidence was at an all time high before she got her abscess and now it seems to have slid back downhill.
Hey ho, onwards and upwards!
How does this thread work btw? Some of you record hours in the saddle and others miles? Some put totals here and others don't?
Oh and does a potter bareback count? Been doing lots of that but just round the yard and barn.

It all counts :). Long or short;).
What ever way works best for you to keep track.
I mostly stay around my property.
I don't need to put boots on and I dont have to worry about dirt bikes atv's or hunters.

There were atv's or something out in the state forest behind Virginia's yesterday that
Were flying around crazy and so loud
Even being way across the street I could hear them inside the house here :mad: .
It's cold here so there are no windows open.
I used to love to ride the neighborhood at the old house.
I don't ride the roads much here because the
Edges are full of poison ivy. You could get off the side if the road but then you would have an eternal ITCH.:(:(:mad:o_Oo_Oo_O

Everything counts! I lost track last year on my hours but still joined in. I also record Mr T's rides:)
Hope your confidence comes on in leaps and bounds, sure it will - but I do know what it's like when it slips due to time off.

We were lucky to have decent (for January) weather over the weekend. Harvey and I hacked out both days. On Saturday we explored a new loop of road that I haven't ridden before. On Sunday I ventured on to the local bridleway and found it to be not too muddy.

BAD COLD is no picnic either.:mad::(:(
I have big heated buckets but also several storage ones since sadly the water hydrant is
not situated too well for the horses
I try to use the hoses in the SUN IF ITS HOPEFULLY ABOVE FREEZING TO USE AND DRAIN
ASAP.

I can dip the water form the storage to the IMG_6988.JPGIMG_6985.JPGheated buckets but if its really cold it gets very icyIMG_6987.JPGIMG_6971.JPG
and I have to break the ice but I can go in the heated buckets and it melts quickly.
I bought a big long camping ladel at walmar to make it easier.;)
It was perfect timing since I dropped the hammer into a full bucket right after I cracked the iceo_Oo_Oo_O thank god I did not have to shove my arm in !!!:eek::eek:

Yes im looking foreward to SPRING:)
