Spring plans

Last night I was able to feed the horses, move the hay feeder, fill it, do 2 barrows of poo picking and switch out the battery on my main leccy fency and bring my mobile unit/battery in all before it got dark which gets me thinking about what I'll do with the lighter evenings in not too many weeks now

What are your spring plans?

Lucky you Jessey, I’m still doing evenings in a head torch, probably be another month before that gets packed away.
I try not to make plans, whenever I do I need plan B and plan C as back up!
Would just like to go hacking a few times a week really, done next to nothing since the beginning of November.

I've got to have a routine operation which will put me out of action for a few weeks. I told the consultant I didn't want it doing until after March, because my plan was to hunt over winter, very tentatively possibly thinking of doing the Kiplingcotes Derby again in March, and then let Raf have his holiday enjoying the Spring grass while I couldn't ride.

Of course that's all gone t*ts up with his cellulitis - why did I ever think I could make a plan? New plan is to try and get a sound horse and then take it from there!

ETA - I'm still going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark too. I'm sure the mornings are still getting darker here, not lighter, but I have seen a difference in the evenings, on a good weather day anyway.

My mornings are done with a head torch, and will be for a good while yet, I am lucky to work 7-3 just half an hour away so I normally make it to the horses by 3.30/45, a few weeks ago that only gave me half an hour of light, what a difference a few minutes makes!

I plan on lots of hacking too, but I also can't wait for some spring cleaning...my barn is a mess! I also want to start doing a little schooling with Jess, I have found a lovely big field in the forest,its actually the overflow car park for when they have big events but as long as I avoid event days and go early morning I'll get away with using it, it's probably a 2 acres and nice and flat

I only make loose plans now for exactly that reason, how frustrating for you

I really daren't think toofar ahead atm - we had a huge set back with Storm a week agoand I honestly don't know what's going to happen. If it is the worst then plans won't feature for a while. Sorry to be a gloomI'll just say that if things go okay then I'll be happy that the evenings are lighter and I can do things without the torch

Well I am trying not to plan to far ahead. I'm taking it a calendar month at a time. So at the moment boys are in the bottom field so I have to walk my furthest to see them. However the bonus to that is because it's still too dark to ride morning and evening, i can lunge instead. I saved the flat part of the hay field, so no animals have been grazing it, so theres grass on it which means that when i lunge the ground isn't cut up. So I've been lunging 5 days a week. Draw back is to ride at the weekend we have a 20 minute walk to get them to the yard to tack up.
Next month they are going back into the top field, so as near to the yard as I can get so I will be able to whip out and get in to ride. You've actually made me plan February creating this post. The mornings will still be too dark, but if I organise myself and go to work on time. I reckon I could ride after work every Thursday and every other Wednesday. The only problem is that the top field has hardly any grass so I can't continue to lunge as the ground will cut up. It's also not as flat so won't suit chunky. Umm some more thought needed there.
March I will definitely ride in the morning. April will probably go to pot as I will be lambing, so that takes president. But I'm sure I will get some weekday rides in.

Im not planning anything! Well, certainly nothing I am going to commit to text! Life has a habit of creeping up and slapping me with a wet fish if I get too planny so this year I'm keeping schtum!!!

I have very nearly finished my path through the woods at the back of my house, which means I will actually be able to ride properly finally! It's only taken me 4 years,lol. I've changed the direction of the path 3 times, but now finally got a good way though that isn't too wet hopefully. I've got one more tree to chop down, then branches/logs to move and a few branches to trim and we should be done, I'm very excited.

Hi Peeps. Haven't been around for a while. Well I got myself a lovely Pony of my own in November and hope to do lots of things once the nights get lighter. Not done much with him yet as there are no lights where hes liveried and its a grass school. I can go up after work and do lots with him and make our bond once its light in the evenings

I'm in the minority I don't want spring as that means hunting is pretty much over and if you hadn't already guessed I LOVE IT!!! Plan on fitting in a few visiting days to big packs before the season ends. Once spring arrives and hunting finishes there is team chasing though which I'm really looking forward to. Then Lottie will have a few well deserved weeks off in the field as she's worked quite hard all winter.

Plan already in place - flights & accommodation booked to go and ride Scully at the end of March - it will be 5 months since I last saw her, can't wait!
