Toys for the field???

I have one with two holes and one as above. The only problem with two holes is the food comes out too easy. The above has a little ledge inside which stops the last bit of food coming out. Which means it still rattles a bit if its pushed about.

I did wonder about it coming out too fast - he's a persistent little beggar! I've got this one on loan for as long as I like, and so far it keeps him going for about half an hour to an hour, then he goes back to it to try and get those pesky last nuts that stay in!

with Bo I found bigger lumps of carrot made it last longer because they were harder to get out :) I have the same as the one you are using, for Hank, never thought to clean it but he always emptied it and it wasn't outside to get wet and manky.

Will try the carrots - taking me half an hour to find the damn thing in the dark lol!

A swede. Though one swede between the group didn't really get their interest in eating it, more nudge and sniff.

Mine is the laid back type and when the herd go for their gallop she's sometimes seen pulling into the centre and just watching them go by.
The only time she's got speed up is if something scares her or she's "naughty" as in breaks free and does a fast trot over the lawns but making sure you saw!

Oh I have to give that one a go! For comic value if nothing else!

I've got a Jolly ball for Ronnie and he pays it zero attention, the dogs love it though. He also has a treat ball which he obviously does pay attention to as it's food!
Some horses do like toys but on the whole I think they're more aimed at humans who want to feel like they're enriching their horses lives by providing them with playthings which will more often than not be ignored :D it's clever marketing and another way to get ££ out of us... Obviously as we have horses we're rolling in it lol
I did see a "treat" ball on the Internet lately but it was a lot bigger than usual as it was for hay/haylage. Would be a good way to keep a horse moving while making their forage last longer.

The treat ball I've given Hogan keeps him off his hay for about half an hour to an hour, which is good - he's moving around for that spell, and hay lasts a bit longer. (I should add, the hi fibre nuts in it have been subtracted from his feed! ) He's such a greedy, lazy chubber - he only meanders up for food, and food is his god.

Jolly ball I have never really understood the concept.
I would rather mine didn't throw things. A cone might attract some interest and be easier/ cheaper to get hold of.
A broom head to itch the bum if you have a good place for that.
Or introduce things with groundwork and you move the horse around.

But the best toys are another buddy. I would look into how that could work. Whats your current arrangement?

He's over the fence to my old boy and YO's rather bossy big cob x tb. Problem is, Ramsey has been in same field for 26 years with said cob x, who pushes him around but not viciously. Hogan I think, could be a bit of a bully boy, and I feel Ramsey's earned his peace at his age. In truth, I think Hogan intimidates the big cob, and I wouldn't want R in the middle of that! Hogan doesn't seem to mind the fence division, but I agree, a buddy for him would be great. Sadly, the YO really doesn't want any more in the yard. Shame, because people would bite her hand off, it's 8 acres, barn with stables, direct forest access. You can see why I've been there so long!

Zi just plays with his empty feed bowl, lol he will happily toss it about for ages after he's finished. Then as a final movement, throw it as far away as possible. If he's in his box that means onto the yard. If he's loose free ranging and been fed in the paddocks then he'll whizz it as far as he can. Wonder it doesn't land on the next farm down!

Well so far, he's quite taken with the treat ball, and my friend says I can just have it, as hers didn't give it a second glance. Definitely going to try the swede/turnip as well, but only when I've time to watch the show!
