New Horse New me!

This pony (or any pony) we have, we would be wanting for life so I am willing to put the time in (as in years) of work and training with the correct help... had a long discussion with my daughter last night and she is happy not to ride her (even if its for a long time), she is happy to be having riding lessons (at the school and not on Moo) and just to be bonding spending time with Moo grooming her etc until they both are ready ... my daughter is very patient and doesn’t just want to “get on and go” and she realises this may take some time. I had a friend come down last night to look at Moo who has had horses for 40+ years who has worked with young horses, trained etc and she is a judge and she is willing to help with her .... so at the moment I think Moo will be staying and we will give it time and work and see how it goes, yes I probably should have got an older horse but I didn’t we got Moo and I’m going to give it the best shot with proper help to make it work ... then if it doesn’t I tried... oh and we’re getting rid of that saddle !
If I could double 'like' I would! Really wish you luck. I never regretted getting a youngster, and I hope you're as lucky with moo as I was with him. :)

Thank you so much I know it’s not going to be easy but I have to try ... my friend is also going to bring two of her horses in next paddock to me an old 26 yr old 12hh and her 19yr old 17:2h who is VERY gentle and she said I can ride her to keep her ticking over and to give me some confidence back while we’re working with Moo ... so all in all it’s a plan I’ve got to take forward and give a try

YEAH YEAH YEAH. the professional RI horse trainer been today and she’s done some in hand work and lunging and Moo was perfect!!! Well behaved well mannered she definitely knows the basics.... she’s given us some things to do over the next week .. I’m so pleased that the first step has been a positive one

I know I sounded negative in my earlier replies @moweykezza , but I do wish you all the best & hope that with someone good to help you & another more experienced horse to get back up to speed with that you can make this work. I honestly was only concerned for you, your children & Moo, & the reason I was concerned was I've seen similar situations go wrong too many times. However it sounds like you've got help & are prepared to put in the work & time rather than just hope everything will sort itself out if you just spend enough time fussing her. Good luck, and please keep us posted x

Balance is everything! All positive would be no use at all, if someone really wants to weigh up pros and cons and reach a sensible conclusion. That's exactly why people join forum's like this. :)

Had to laugh - looked at your headcollar and her feathers - great minds etc!View attachment 98467View attachment 98468

oh wow beautiful !! Those feather and mane take some looking after let alone anything else don’t they ? Every day Moo looks like she’s got “bed head” and mane, feather and tail have to be tackled or else she looks like she has dreadlocks !!

No no I appreciate everyone’s views. I was under no illusions of a fairytale fix I was more concerned was it me or the horse ??? and I’m hoping it was me that expected too much and didn’t respect the fact that she was new young horse and you guys gave me the advice of get professional help or get rid ... then it was up to me which advice I took. I really haven’t slept much weighing up the pros and cons (which the new rider forum members gave me ) and everyone’s views and opinions helped so much in me making a decision. Yesterday I felt so much better after Ruth had been out and worked with Moo and hopefully the problem was with me and not the horse,,,and I’m also under no illusion either that just because yesterday was a good training session that every session will be ..., but yesterday really was positive, a long road ahead Who knows it still may not be the right decision in the long run only time will tell ???

It will be great to hear how your journey progresses. Take each day as it comes. If you hit a problem perhaps put up a post. I try to take advice on board and see if suggestions work for my boys to resolve problems I have.

Ok everyone an update ... it’s with a heavy heart I have to tell you that Moo is being returned ... this is on the advice of my instructor also.... she is just too much for us to deal with .... my daughter was originally upset but now understands we need something older that has “been around the block a bit” ... so onwards and upwards .... as one door closes another one will surely open with something more suitable to give a forever home x thank you to everyone for your advice .... at least I know I gave (if only for a few weeks) it a try and am being sensible and my heart not ruling my head ...x

@moweykezza I'm sorry it didn't work, I badly wanted to be wrong. The right horse is out there though, and now you have an instructor who can look at your choices with you and hopefully help you avoid another mistake. I hope you and your daughter haven't got hurt or your nerve shaken.

Sorry it didn't work out, but you've done the right thing for both you and moo. Take your time, and enjoy finding the right one for you. It's a nerve racking, exciting and rewarding journey!

Nope after what we’ve been through it only makes us stronger ... double edged sword really makes me more determined to do what’s right and do the right thing for us And our new four legged family member ..... we weren’t right for Moo and she wasn’t right for us .,, She will thrive with the right owners and we will thrive with the right horse ....I’ve not seen my daughter as happy in these last 2 years since Manchester and I know the perfect equine friend is the medicine we need but we need to find the right one .. and in the meantime we will carry on with the riding lessons and hopefully our perfect horse will come to us .... I’m a believer xx

That’s how I feel, this door closes lesson learned Moo needs more we need more and we can’t give each other what we need.,, but the prospect of having something that will work is exciting ... and that smile on my daughters face and mine when we get to find something that works will be priceless .,, so in the meantime we’re riding at a riding school whilst our trust is in the hands of our instructor/trainer to find our match .., it will come .. and Moo will get her match. I didn’t give up on her straight away I did try and see if there was scope because I was willing, unfortunately there wasn’t. I will always be grateful to Moo for giving my daughter a spark back I haven’t seen in a long time and for that I have to do the right thing by Moo tooxx

I am truly sorry it didn't work out, but your perfect partner is definitely out there somewhere waiting for you and if nothing else this was a good learning experience :)

I had to return a horse and it was horrible - it took me a few weeks to bounce back, but I did and ended up with a nicer horse. I'm sure you will too!
