Hoof boots!!!

So sox has been in cavallos on his hinds for a while. However they reslly started to rub him raw ,litrally!
So i went on the hunt for some better boots for him.
We are currently on vipers,with easyboot Trail and scoots as a possibility.
We spent many weeks on fit kits back and fourth trying to get the right fit. Finally the boots Arrived late july. However they twist,badly. :( as sox twists how hinds when he places his hoof down. So i tried a smaller capitvator and messed with wires. Only for the capitvator to not go over his heels!!!
Turns out the boots he is in are too small for him and he possibly needs a bigger boot in the vipers. Which is more fit kits which HB are sending me free of charge due to the issues.
However i am getting increasing very pissed off ,in short. I really am recluant to pay for another brand new boot for it to possibly still have the same problems! So i was thinking of the above boots i mentioned. But then i have heard mixed reviews about the scoots. In regarding to rubbing. :(
Leaning towards the trails tbh.
Just wondering if anyone has any advice?
I just want sox to be comfortable, and boots be ok.
Also sox is in cavallos on his fores and i have had no issues what so ever.

I wouldn’t have trails as a gift! Mine fell apart and when I contacted the company in the states, they’re designed for dry work, not hacking in our wet climes. My lot got on well with catalogs, but it very much depends on hoof shape and what fits.
 
I have used Scoots on two horses now and never had any rubs. One Fell pony and a traditional.
Both had fairly round hooves but Scoot now do a narrow fit boot if yours has a more traditional type hoof.

Before Scoots I used the cavello Simples which were ok. No rubs, but they did twist ever so slightly.
Have you spoken to Liz at The Saddlery Shop? If you send in a template of your horses hoof, she can recommend a boot which may suit.
The other thing I’ve heard of is using a mans sock to stop the rubbing, not much use if they are too small and twist, but it may help for your next pair.

I wouldn't be put off the cavallo's @Frances144, I have used them for years with never a single rub, I think @lauren123 will confirm Sox is a bit of an anomaly for hind boot fitting ;)
I've got a couple of pairs of EB gloves I could loan you to try @lauren123, if they will fit him, I'll have to double check what sizes I have. I honestly think you will have the same problem in trails as you do in cavallo's, they are a full covering boot so likely to have similar rub issues with his twisty action. Have you tried a size up but the slim version in cavallo's? to give more room at the heel without getting extra width. I had to go a size over what they expected in the vipers for them to be a really good fit, the smaller ones went on and worked but the size up is def better.
 
I have scoot boots and loved them, they never budged or rubbed him. I don't really use them now as we don't do big road hacks like we used too,(roads have got far too busy) and he is fine without on small hacks and being ridden in the field.

Thats the only thing i am worried about in trying the other boots that they will still rubb him.yes he is a pain in the bum with how feet jessey!! That would be reslly helpful if the sizes you have fit jessey.
We are trying the next size up in the vipers just alot of back and fourth and it still not working!
I havent actually. I tried the size up in the simple cavallos and they were too big. It could be a option though. I also feel either the scoots will rub or twist

I never had them do anything bad, Jess just seemed to be between sizes, 3 slopped around like flip flops and 2 I couldn't get on her, managed to wedge them on her hinds but the battle getting them off again said they were too small. They didn't rub tho, in either size :D

I'll look at the gloves later and let you know sizes.
 
Have you tried riding him in fronts only? Or is he too tender footed? Hinds often twist due to the horses action and as most of the wieght is taken on a horse's forelegs they often don't need booting behind. My husband's horse dishes in trot and Cavalos twisted on her front hooves, we bought her some Scoots and they don't move at all and don't rub. Both our horses don't need boots when we ride on tarmac roads, but we sometimes take them to very stony forestry tracks where they seem fine only booted on their front hooves.

Does he really need to have backs on? Generally these are hardier than the fronts.
I have never used backs to be fair.

We have had and got on with,
Boa not now made, Gloves, Trials and not the Cavallo Simple. Only issue I had with these is the pony slipped a lot on grass.
I may look into the combined glove and trail whose name escapes me! Eta.backcountry
 
I have used Cavallo for 4 years now without any issues. Buddy is getting a set of Scoots this week, so will let you know how we got with them.

Boots are great on road and stony tracks, not so great on grass.
 
I liked the Renegade Vipers Ziggy had in his last years. They were very sturdy and stayed on well.

My friend Ute's horse is booted front and back when necessary and he goes well on sandy tracks, stones and tarmac. We don't have much grass.
