2019 Hacking/Riding Thread

Very cold but beautiful and frosty - until the fog came down. I got Hogan in, and by the time I'd tacked up it was really foggy. Set off anyway, and ended up having a lovely ride. Hogan was a little spooked by the fog, but didn't really act up. In the second pic, is the open forest outside the inclosure - you can't see the it at all. Good lad Hogan! Fog used to send mine into a spin, lol even when they were just turned out in the arena at our old house. I don't think I've ridden Zi in it yet.

It actually WAS quite spooky. There wasn't another soul out, except for the ponies, not a dog walker in sight. Very strange to look out over the hill, and not see the expanse of forest - just a wall of white. Apparently it was clear all round the built up areas - just the forest covered by it.

Well pleased to say I got on board today. I wasn't going to - as time is short and we're preparing a room ready for decorating. And trying to work (the paid variety lol) but anyway a rare day with NO wind hahahahaa, so who could resist?!
So OH rode first and then me. Have to say, my confidence does come and go and last time I rode it had gone again. So, I tried really really hard not to clamp on (he's so sensitive if I'm upsetting him he starts squealing and getting worried). So I almost have to "act" really,. But anyways managed a pootle and didn't set him off - the sun was shining, no wind at all and a great sea view. Success! (Bet my legs will feel stiff though in the morning, I know I am more tense than I ought to be).

These are the ones we should remember! But we always dwell on the not so good ones. I envy you the sea view. :D

Lots of play no riding.
Hes been a bit silly with it being cold.
But not horrible.
Ugh no play today our high was 32f

The 32f would not have been too horrible
It was the high winds making the wind chill
Awful.
I was out with 2 hats on.

But thankfully we did not get SNOW last nite. The temps bottomed out after the rain stopped.
Not too far north got accumulating snow:eek:
THANK GOD NOT HERE.....

Brrrrr! Not good. The only thing I hate as much as rain is wind! I lived a few years in Carlisle, and it was ALWAYS WINDY!!! Good for Sonny - there's not many horses that don't go really silly in the wind. I've been lucky I think - Ramsey was like Sonny - silly but not dangerous, and Hogan so far has been pretty ok. The girl in the next field won't even ride in a stiff breeze. Hope the snow misses you!

Well, 2 hours and £447 worse off - and that's only half done! Not sure what hurt more - my mouth or my wallet.

Huggy yesterday was HORRIBLE COLD... in the am but thank god no wind.
It was only about 19f but with no wind being bundled up was not too bad since there
was no wind.
I legged up just after dawn the walk was good. I worry about solar glare when the sun finally comes up thru the trees..
Its kind of nice when its light but no sun problems yet.
I did put him up in one of the big rd pens but they don't get a lot of sun cause most of the tree line are large pines and the sun comes around behind that treeline in the am.
I have done a lot of online and liberty play. Sonny is pretty easy going to feel good with wind but not dangerous silly.
I missed such a good photo with andi yesterday. I brought Sonny back the turkeys were in Andi's area then went thru toward Sonny's.
I was walking on the side toward the third area one turkey was left in Andi's area.
LOL she took off rearing jumping bucking fun fun fun chasing the turkey.
I did not expect that sadly since they are always wandering thru or id have had my camera ready..
I love seeing the turkeys. The other morning they were up around the deck.
They look so healty and shiny and are great tick patrol.
Its just starting to get light out I don't think we are nearly as cold today.
But UGH tues pm going to wed will be horrible with temps falling thru the floor
to record lows maybe 15f and THIS IS THE PITTS.. a couple inches of SNOW
that I don't think will avoid us..
BUT to make lemonade from the lemons if its that cold it will be a nice dry fluffy snow easy to shift and if its NOT MUCH it does make things LOOK PRETTY....

I don't want to have chickens since they would attract coyotes and its scary to hear them out in the woods at night.
They are great for ticks though.
But the turkeys are super since they FLOAT thru meandering make their rounds
but are not just staying here to attract they coyotes.
Sadly im hearing lots of shots in the woods when im out in the early morning but mostly on the other side of the road. Ugh and any place you drive early all along the roads are hunters trucks parked..

Well Saturday was a total washout again (3rd in a row). It was so cold and wet I let Harvey have a day off

Sunday was our fist trip out in the new lorry. Harvey loaded nicely but was very confused about turning right instead of left! Our trip was to my regular SJ clinic this time jumping 90-100cm. Harvey went well until we tried the whole course at which point he crashed through the first element of the double and upset himself. We managed to jump all of the fences but he really wasn't going well so I left it at that (we all have off days!)

Well, 4 days and 4 nights of grandchildren, though really lovely, is taking its toll. After breakfast, dinners, baths, school and nursery drop offs, my stress levels were climbing o_O. Only 6 weeks to go..... I got to the field after school drop off, and most of it fell away. We had a simple hack, but kept meeting a guy on a bike, zooming up down and all around. I kept stopping, and letting him go past, but on the 4th meeting, he was coming towards me, and I thought I'd stood by enough. Hogan was amazing - we were trotting and he never faltered, even though the cyclist didn't slow or stop. By the time we got home, I was thoroughly chilled out. Icing on the cake was leaning on the gate watching the boys filling their faces.Screenshot_20191113-184952_Gallery.jpg

OHHH its been so cold the last few days.
We broke record cold lows and on Wed broke the record cold for the HIGH for the day that was from 1911:mad::(
and added it was horribly windy making the wind chill really bad too.
Not a lot has been going on here. Doing things at 12f and 14f in the am is really hard.
Today starting about 28f will feel like a heat wave:rolleyes:
Today will be a bit better so I will leg up and hopefully get some play later.
I had to be outside with 2 hats one being a bomber type with flaps on the ears over my knit hat.
We only got a coating of snow on the fences and grass the other day thankfully.


Garyb OHHH I really REALLY love that lorry:):););).

Sigh deer season is in FULL SWING HERE. :( I am hearing shots every morning but thankfully on the other
side of the road.
I'm soooo glad that going out in that state forest was not a high priority and I'm happy staying right on my
own property.
The deer butcher about a mile up the road is really busy every time I pass heading to town hes got several in progress and even people waiting.
They are not being taken in vane as trophy. They are being properly butchered.
People go there from far and wide across the 3 states so thankfully they are not all from right around here.
If they have to be thinned at least they are not being wasted.

Out this morning, and think the grass might be just rich enough to give Hogan a "spooky" boost! He's definitely a bit twitchy. Uneventful, apart from a fallen tree, that we've passed 100 times - silly boots was NOT having it, not by the hair on his chinny chin. Snorting, backing away etc. Luckily a dog walker came along and walked past us and it, and Hogan just stopped the nonsense and sauntered past it. :mad:. Nice compliment though from lady in next yard - as we came back, she stopped us, and said how much he'd improved, and that he was such a handsome boy.:) Of course, I think that, but it's nice to hear from someone else.
