2019 Hacking/Riding Thread

Annoying thing is, I'm going to have to take that route again, to cement the idea, he's got go go past. I swear his thought process is " Well the old bat's going to sit there til I do it, so I may as well - sigh" ;)

Squeezed a quick ride in late afternoon - very late! I now know that Hogan does not like "roaming in the gloaming"! We set off about 3.40, and by the time we got into the forest it was decidedly dusky. He was so spooked by the different light - glaring into the trees, jumping at the slightest noise, and huffing away the whole way round. I didn't dare trot - I think he'd have imploded if I did, so we walked - fast - and he was sweating like mad by the time we got home. Good result of it all, was that he didn't act on his fear - 6 months ago he'd have behaved very differently, so hopefully this means he's got a teeny bit of trust in me now, and I in him.

That's ace that he didn't react - and be scared. You two sound like you're doing really well. It's always a bit spooky at dusk time isn't it?

I managed a quick Zi plod this afternoon. We had to hold off for a while as suddenly we got a heavy squall. I sort of knew it would clear, so once he was tacked up I thought we might as well wait it out in his apartment. Anyway, glad we did as both Mr T and me had a nice ride and it was lovely watching the sunset over the sea - a beautiful skyline. Zi was a tad spooky but not to blame in any way, I just think at dusk time that little creatures are probably all making their way to bed and it un-settled him a bit. But he was good on the whole and I'm glad I got on. Poor Mr T has to help me down lol (I have plantar faciitis atm) he groaned at my weight  So either he's getting old and unfit or I've had too many Orkney pies and hot chocolate drinks.......................................!

It definitely is - even the dogs we met were a bit hyper!

Oh I envy you, being able to ride with your OH - unfortunately, mine is really allergic to the horses, though when we were first dating, he came out in a RS hack with me - suffered for days after, bless him! Did the trick though!

Aw that's a shame he is allergic. If it wasn't for Mr Trews, I'd have probably given up altogether with the riding aspect. But he's good and keen and very encouraging. And he's so chilled - not like me, I seem to have electric pants lol

Another ride for me today, it was OH's birthday so only a quick one as we wanted to go into town. Zi was fab, lol the naughty kitties decided they were going to plague us! Rosina (she's so cheeky now) thought it fun hopping in and out of the arena...............and then of course the others joined in. They are growing up fast! Anyway Zi took it all in his stride and I rode first for once. Then OH got on. Lol I joked about warming him up for him............hahahaaa, not a chance - he never needs warming up! It was good and we had a nice pootle. Maybe this is the start of a good riding weather spell for us.....................................

This weekend I was hacking companion. On Saturday we drove the short distance to my friend B's yard and hacked out with her ex racer mare who can't go on her own.

On Sunday I borrowed the yard veteran to accompany a fellow livery who is very nervous and just starting to hack. As soon as we got back I jumped on Harvey and went out with our yard groom who was riding a new liveries pony. She (the new livery) is too nervous to ride out so she has him on exercise livery and we are getting him used to going out.

And after 3 rides I still didn't manage to take any pics :(

Rode for the first time yesterday in what seems like FOREVER. :(

This has really been a miserable stretch of weather.
Even yesterday started out horrid. It was supposed to finally warm up a bit
but it was Icy out.
I had not done any leggin up in a couple days and walked out to the road and it was
Icy..
Even if we could have done ok I can't chance being out there with people
driving too fast.
I have been doing a little bit of play but yesterday had some really good play with the tire and the poles cross.
Then later FINALLY a ride...;););):):):)
He was very responsive I put out a few festive elf hats.
We got some great back up turn on forehand and haunches he was VERY RESPONSIVE.:D
The only Hiccup was when I was talking to Virginia when she came up to get her mail at the road. I let sonny graze while we were talking a few min. I was on him.
He did give me a little attitude about I WANT MORE GRASS …….NOW...….
He saw it my way....
I did let him loose after we rode.
I was a bit BOLD the Indians fiasco and quarrentine was still RAW...
She said she had 2 percherons coming for the winter but they don't do anything with them.
I told her she needs to make sure they have COGGINS and RABIES certificates.
Then sigh I got an EDCC alert last nite. A huge 40 horse barn in our county
quarrentined by the state vet for strangles.
3 horses got it they were supposedly segregated til they were CLEAR.
Well that all went horribly wrong. They went back near the others and a further
21 got sick.
I texted Toni last nite to tell her. She said she would tell V and mention making
SURE they have shots etc.
The weather is already NOT COOPERATING for today. Its windy and there was some rain. Its quite a while before its going to be light out to get a good idea.
At least I had fun and a good ride yesterday.
I did add some change over to xmas flowers in the pots last week .

No riding yesterday but lots of play.
He needed to really blow it out yesterday.
He was very good no really silly boy.
I asked for trot and got an extened canter gallop for quite a long time.
But it was pretty and not stupid silly boy.
I just let him go and go and GO.
Then we came back to nice trot and walk.
Today the ground is frozen again but it should soften later.
Another alert came thru yesterday for another very big 40 horse barn.
In Middlesex county MA that has been put on official quarrentine for strangles
by the MA state vet.
Thats not far away either so its OUT THERE .

Oh strangled is nasty - hope it stays away from you!
We went out on Wednesday, and he was still a bit spooky - very unlike him, but we got round ok. It was actually very windy, so it might have been that, but I'm leaning towards the grass being richer than I thought, and giving him a fit of the sillies. But, took him out today, mid afternoon, and he was a superstar. For some reason, all the dog walkers seemed to feel it necessary to hide in the bushes, then - BIG WHITE COWS!!! WITH HORNS!!! LYING DOWN IN THE BUSHES   !! He was a little hesitant but SO good - they were only a few feet away, and he went past with very little encouragement. I would have taken a photo, but I was hanging on for dear life - just in case! However, this is a picture of what a good boy looks like ;)....Screenshot_20191123-180139_Gallery.jpg

A lovely quick ride on Zi today, I watched the darkness coming from the other side of the island but we had a great time and Mr T rode him too - just in the nick of time when he got off, it started spotting with rain. Zi is such a good boy, he deserves some pics, so next time I must have my phone with me! No sign of the kitties, lol I think they were all sleeping brunch off in the byre...................

I had one day's holiday from work left so on Wednesday I joined a small escorted ride (3 of us!) run by our local bridleways association. It was round a marked horse route I have ridden several times before but we rode it the opposite direction to the markers. It looked quite different and actually rode better that way.

On Saturday a friend and I went arena eventing schooling. A local venue had a competition and after it finished they hired out the course for schooling. The SJ were a bit lower than I normally jump, but some of the rustic fences were at the top end of my comfort zone (we jumped them anyway!)

Sunday dawned foggy and stayed that way. It cleared enough for me to "babysit" one of the liveries round the block on the yard veteran but then came down again. Harvey and I had to satisfy ourselves with playing in the school for a while.

Don't you just love their party nights?! Mr T and me swear Storm has a viking banquet most nights - and throws as much as she can onto the floor whilst making merry.................:p:D

You're lucky to have caught the weather! I haven't ridden since Saturday - I'm getting twitchy, and so is Hogan. :(
