It was still dark when I got to the yard this morning and Ale didn't come to the fence to say hello like he normally does. Alarm bells ringing I could see his eyes at the other end of the field. As I got close to him he reluctantly took a step but he really wasn't happy.

Complete panic by now thinking he's broken a leg or something. Checked him all over with my head torch couldn't see anything then under his belly. He'd only somehow managed to get his tail wrapped around his sensitive bits and then recoiled it into his sheath. Didn't look very comfy at all. Thankfully I keep scissors in my first aid kit so managed to free him without too much trouble although he was not happy. Doesn't seem to be any damage done!

I always trim his tail quite short at the start of winter to stop it getting too muddy but I've now cut it shorter to hopefully prevent any further mishaps!

I’ll add that possibility to the things I might end up pulling daily out of Farans sheath

hope he’s ok

Not his whole tail I hasten to add! But a good sized section. Oh dear @MrC glad this was just a one off for ale!

Reading this reminds me of Jim having a good snooze on a hot summer day and ending up sunburned and unable to put it away. Gentle cold hosing and lots of aloe vera - the things we do for horses!

Ouch! Poor boy luckily not experienced that yet either..

@MrC how on earth does he manage that? No, on second thoughts I probably don't want to know.

honestly he’s bogging. He is the dirtiest gelding I’ve ever had. His back legs are coated regularly and he even had some smeagum balls on his tummy hair the other week. Im constantly all up in there with various things and the vets not concerned say he’s just over Producing.

I think he’s letting it all out when he’s lying down etc then when he draws it back up he’s dragging stuff in with it. Only reason I can think that I’m pulling full handfuls of full strands of hay and trace out of there
