Hogan is channelling Dan!

Went up tonight in the dark to feed and hay them. Could only see B at the gate, no sign of Hogan. Went up and down and round 3 times, calling and shining my torch into the bushes. Nothing. Not a snicker, not a movement, nothing. Total panic now - there's nowhere else to look. Rang the YO who said she'd come to help. Did one more round of the field while I waited, and through thick undergrowth and brambles could see his footprints. Tore my legs to shreds pushing through, and heard movement. He'd gone through 2 barbed wire fences and a deep ditch and got into the summer field. Totally unperturbed, and not a mark on him, as far as I could tell. We've left him in the top summer field over the fence from B, as he'd just have gone through again. Tomorrow, we'll have to fence off the bottom half of their field to stop him reaching the bit he got through. I aged about 10 years tonight.

I'm glad you found him and he's not hurt, it's terrifying when they do things like that and even worse in the dark. BAD Hogan!

Oh my gosh! How worrying and what a huge relief to eventually find the devil. I had a mare used to do this sort of thing every winter come Jan/Feb. It really made little or no difference fencing, distance from the smell of grass etc. etc. she seemed to just say 'Feff this! I'm off to find some grass!' and off she went through electric, post and rail, barbed wire lol!

The most memorable occasion finding her and bringing her home...at least a mile away on the local allotments eating cabbages, she farted the whole way home!

This was my first thought too!
Nothing worse than getting to the yard and thinking they’ve gone, it must have been terrifying for you Huggy, glad he’s ok but what a norty boy. x

I swear I was bricking it. I convinced myself he'd been stolen (within the last 2 months 2 different blokes have stopped me on the lane by the yard and commented on him). It didn't register that all the fencing was in fact, and all the gates were still padlocked. Why do I have these bloody escapologists? Ramsey ended up on the main road at 2am one night, and numerous adventures into surrounding fields aaargh! Tonight was like finding your lost toddler though - when I got hold of the little bugger I just hugged him - not what he deserved. He just tossed his head and said " Where's the bucket? Where's the hay?"

Oh dear, another one! Sometimes I think they just cannot resist a challenge. Huggy, I feel for you.

Well, we've put the electric fencing across, half way down, blocking off his escape route (or at least one of them - maybe he watched the Great Escape and has a Tom, a Dick and a Harry). Anyway, he was still there this evening, albeit a bit disgruntled. He's a typical cob - even when his tummys full, he thinks he's hungry.

Oh goodness, I'll have words with Dan about sharing his tricks with other NR horses it really gets your heart racing when you can't find them on the first loop of looking, little sods!

From the above photo Hogan looks like he should have his own suit of armor and be ridden by a knight.
