Coronavirus

They should but be prepared for those who don't like the idea of waiting their turn.
Social distancing cannot be enforced by law, but if an argument starts that can be.
Strangely enough stone people just don't have any patience yet. It's a slower way of life now. It's feels like that to me anyway.

The whole thing is so odd really - I just can't imagine now ever going into the local feed place and browsing. I just can't imagine doing a lot of other things either. I've always been a germ phobe anyway and very spatially aware and don't like folk being too close, but now - I just can't see me bothering to go out unless I have to. I had all manner of visits planned this summer too. But not worth the risk - even if the places were open.
I actually don't go to the local tack or feed store. It's the opposite side of where I am so I buy online.
I don't buy any horse feed though and she's a minimalist cob ha ha.

NZ has woken up to the first day of Level 2, and freedom :D It's my day off too. I'm actually not going to go anywhere public because I think it'll be manic with lots of queueing, but a nice drive to my favourite local beach is on the cards after lunch!

It's so weird that people woke up and did the same here, but I think, we are just moving into level 3. And yes looking on the news manic.

I decided yesterday to make my claim for self employed. Seeing as though i cant work. The government said i could so i did. Ive done as they said and stayed home. Ironically my brother got sent a letter about it. Ive had nothing. Strangely i got a text message but he didnt. I didnt use any links in it though as i keep hearing about them being fraudulent. But it was announced on the tv so i decided to get it done. I did note they said they may extend it. Well they better cause i cant see how i can go back to work as it currently stands. At least it covers 3 months which i think takes us to mid june or there abouts. Maybe by some miracle the virus will have gone by then.
The only thing i object strongly to is i was forced to do it all online. Which meant giving lots of personal info in one fal swoop. I also dont see why they couldnt have just paid it to all self employed people. They had all my details of my tax returns on there system. I didnt have to enter any of that.
I would say that it was a peice of cake to do and the whole thing only took about 20 minutes from start to finish. I cant complain about that part of it.

Lol, from what I've read most people there never stopped ;)
That's was the minority hitting the headlines.
Now people are allowed to do something those that struggle with basic instructions can carry on, sadly they have passed that disrespect onto their kids.

Different departments. This one won't have any of your details.
It puzzles me how a different department can instantly take money we owe them, but can't find info on us the other way round.

We are two months in, what do they think people have been living on if they don't have savings?

Most are living on credit cards and loans and probably deeply in debt.
Whilst ive tucked some money away for a rainy day i dont have lots of savings. I cant afford to be out of work indefinitely it will get critical pretty soon.

Glad you have got sorted - I noticed it was all online too. I think a lot of stuff now is online rather than making a phone call - the department of work and pensions and all that. When my dad died last year my mum spent ages trying to get sorted and get to the bottom of things, fortunately there was a phone number at least.

Yes savings - we have dibbed into ours. We are lucky in that at least we have some. Others are not so lucky.

I did mine yesterday and my hubby did his today. I was pleasantly surprised how easy it all was. Usually anything to do with hmrc takes forever .I was glad it was all online with very little to fill out. :)

Is anyone concerned that this short term measure, isn't going to be short term? I don't mean because we can't get control of the virus, I mean because we have lost control of all aspects of our lives?
Would you park outside the town centre and walk, cycle, bus in, or would you simply go to the out of town shopping areas and buy online?
I can see both sides of this, but surely the shops need all the footfall they can get right now. Closing it to traffic, could be what kills it off?

I dunno. It's difficult because you see things from your own perspective and experience. So I am imagining Leeds and think this would be an amazing improvement. You can drive through Leeds City Centre but you can't park on the street so I doubt it would make any difference to the footfall of shoppers, many of whom come on the train/bus or park in the giant multi stories. It won't be practical in many areas though, the route I walk from the car park to work just doesn't have the space to widen footpaths or create cycle lanes. I hate the walk in rush hour, I get street rage. So many people on the paths, not walking fast enough or walking side by side coming towards you leaving you no-where to go. And the walking texters - if I were in charge I'd make it a criminal offence. That and umbrellas - they take up far too much room. People should wear hoods! :p

Oh and re the social distancing being short term, it is depressing to think it might be around for many years to come. Until we get a vaccine (if we ever do) or we have had the virus (and assuming you can't catch it more than once) we are not going to be safe are we? Both mine and OH's work are making plans to put long term measures into effect, planning for a changed future rather than just getting through the next few months.

I have already moaned at someone for texting and not actually looking where they were going.
Our buses are all taped up, five passengers downstairs only. No idea upstairs.
Guessing the trains look the same, no idea.
I don't know Leeds, I can though equate this to my nearest city centre. But then wonder if you will just be in a constant queue, what I would class as not that important I will just buy online and not even bother with town, which in theory offers more room for others.
We've done two months without the non essential shops already. I can imagine a winding line of people wanting to get their hair cut though.

I joked about the one way walking streets, I dare not say we will have a slow lane and an overtaking lane on the pavement!
But if everyone was going the same way you wouldn't need to cross the road.

I actually said this to my mum the other day when i read about them wanting to widen the pavements. It would be far cheaper to install temporary pedestrians crossings at either end of the road and make everyone do a one way system down one side of the road and back up the other.

My first day working in the garden center yesterday once open and must say most people were really good! It's a huge adjustment from how they would normally shop with us. Despite standing at the door asking them to follow the one way system I saw many people not doing that. One thing I have noticed is that it people can't hear you they take their mask off, either because they think that will help them hear better or because they want you to mimic and do the same so they can then hear you.

Of course there is always one, I was at the front organising till queue and a gentleman came in through the exit door (about a 30-45 minute queue line outside, very obvious) He was already very irrate and then further irritated that there was no way into the centre from the exit (we thought this would happen so had blocked most routes) He comes right up to me, fuming, and starts having a go saying we are all being ridiculous, having a queue is absurd, wearing masks is pathetic, the whole virus thing is nonsense we all need to get viruses. Well of course I'm well within my right to ask him to please step back and help observe social distancing so I do. Anyway that gets me a right earful. Just repeated that if he wishes to enter the store he will have to join the queue and then we will be very happy to welcome him in to shop with us. I'm terrible at judging people's ages but I would say it was likely this man was over 70 also. My colleague said the same happened to him the day before, what do you say to these people they clearly think hundreds of thousands of deaths worldwide isn't enough for them to queue for half an hour

@Ale you're wasting your time trying to talk to them, although "smile you're on cctv" may make them back off a bit if you feel threatened. Ask your boss to provide a security guard or two who can firmy encourage such people to leave before staff are put at risk.

@Bodshi this isn't from Facebook, this is actually from the PM article in the Sunday Mail.

The message is: work from home if you can but travel to work if you can’t. And avoid public transport if you can, but use it if you can’t.

No wonder some countries see our lockdown as a comedy.
You can exercise all day but stay alert, but the message is still, stay home I think.
I am home except when I am out and then I am not.
