Niko is going to need new rugs this winter after his summer growth, I just got cheap ones last year as I knew he’d grow like a weed, but they rubbed his shoulders a lot so I’d like some better fitting ones this time around but my normal go to’s are for big chests

I would suggest Saxon too. I have a 300grm turnout which I didn’t think would be great but has done 3 winters with no sign of wear. It isn’t the deepest and def narrower in the chest but actually fits well and it wasn’t expensive so I didn’t mind if it only lasted a winter. It was on sale in the shop and a few of us stocked up. I then bought a Saxon stable rug but it was far too shallow for robin and was sold on. Then a 200grm turnout which was very similar in fit to the 300grm. It looks like their stable rugs are smaller fitting that turnouts

Dont get any Kadence rugs. Think they were made for Countrywide, not sure if they are still sold in other stores. I can tell you they are cut tight on the shoulders.

I use amigo for Jess’ huge wide chest so don’t think they’d be good, though I do have one I got for him last year but it was too big so I put it in the bin for later so will try it again.
Whitaker and weatherbeeta both rubbed. I got a gallop and returned it the fit was so awful. I tend to find the Saxon and rhinegold similar.
I’d like a 1200d +, so hopefully it will last more than 1 winter 🤣😬

Hmm, size may be part of the issue, I got him a 6ft last year and it was too big and hung off his bum. Put it on this morning and it’s too small, his butt cheeks are hanging out of it!
Tried jess’ 6’6” which was just too big (but would do in a pinch), so I think he’ll need 6’3”s this winter 😯
Anyone had the Derby House Elite rug? What’s the fit like?

Gosh it is a hassle with a growing boy.

I was lucky that I never bothered with a rug for Charlie. He didn't grow a Highland coat but he seemed impervious to cold, as to everything else (including me)

I may have some 6'3 fal here that were on the cobs but don't fit Buddy do you want me to have a look

In my experience derby house rugs fall apart very quickly and the front straps don’t seem to fit properly so the rug folds back leaving the buckles pressing against the skin.

Thanks I haven't bought any since they went bust a few years back as they went crappy after that, I was hoping they had improved but doesn't sound like it!

Thank you that is very kind, do the Fal have the surcingle type clips on the front? I'm trying to avoid those as all my hay goes out in big nets and he's an itchy little sucker, it just feels like an accident waiting to happen.

Anyone bored and want to help me? this is driving me potty, I have some must-haves and a budget and they don't really match 😂 but I'm hoping to pick something up in the sale.....

No fill
1200d
6'3"
Not surcingle buckles on the front
Standard neck
To suit a scrawny chest
Shoulder gussets
Around the 50 quid mark (given he needs a full new wardrobe and they might not last more than one season).

I have found the Gallop Trojan Xtra which fits the bill but I find the gallop fit is normally crap 🤔 or the Derby House Elite which is slightly over budget but comes with a neck and can have liners added so saves me on the MW he'll need.......but DH haven't been the best quality of late

Not really helpful, but have you thought of getting one decent outer and then some cheap liners or stable rugs for underneath? That way you don't need a full wardrobe and the underrugs will probably do next year too. I find it doesn't really matter if they're liner compatible if you use stable rugs underneath, and ndeed most liners are just fine as long as they can clip onto something at the back.

I have, but I can't honestly justify spending 150 quid on a LW that may not fit next year and I will have to botch together with not-made-for-it liners/stable rugs. I will happily spend it once he stops growing so much and stops wrecking rugs rouch housing :D
