Merry Christmas to you all

Thats so sad @Mary Poppins. Sadly i doubt there will be much you can organise over the christmas break so please try to make the most of your break.

Its very difficult to be happy when loved ones pass at christmas. Indeed my uncle passed away 10 years ago just before christmas. His funeral was on the 22nd. This week i had to say goodbye to Abbey who was my nan and uncles dog who we inherited from them. It seemed right to have her put to sleep on the 22nd. The house is very empty without her, but in my heart i could not let her go through the christmas watching her deteriorating. Then yesterday having a baby calf born. Normally i would be over joyed with a christmas calf but it has been over shadowed with loosing Abbs.
Feel for you, we lost Kim in July and our first xmas without that poodle face, she was so missed

Thanks all. We are facing a new kind of reality this morning and the enormous job of sorting out everything. When we go up we will be going through all the paperwork, sorting finances, planning a funeral and then trying to help my mother in law decide what to do now. She had been a dedicated carer for the last 10 years and was practically house bound since covid as my father in law was such a high risk they simply stopped going out. It's going to be a big change for her.

best thing is do nothing in a hurry, take time, she needs time to stay there and adjust then see if she wants to stay, that is assuming she can afford to do so

Dreadful day so far, was out putting feed in for hens, heard screaming and dogs barking and screaming, rushed out. Bloody neighbours German shepherds from next door running loose on our communal driveway and have attacked another dog who was walking past on the road and on the lead, poor little corgi, grabbed it shook it to bits, and bit the owner who was hysterical. Took her other dog off her to safety while bastard neighbour tried to get out of it, saying corgi was ok. This is the third dog they have savaged, one who lives next door and was attacked in its own garden , and who one also was walking past on the road on the lead and who lives next door to this one! They let them run around as a pack of 4, out of control. So we had a bit of a slanging match as I mentioned to the lady who had been bitten that it wasn't the first time they had done it....so i got told by neighbours to go away and once the lady and dogs left, i got shouted at by them. so I told them in no uncertain terms that if their bloody dogs got on our land i would report them, and will have a word with the owner of the dog attacked, as happy to be her witness. There could have been a child there, it's just not good enough.
Police have been, woman reported them, met the owners of the other dog who was attacked who are her neighbours, she is still very distraught very upset. Turns out a 4th dog was attacked, another neighbour closer to me. And the owner of the one who now walks with a stick as protection for his dog has been threatened by the neighbour

My DiL fell going to the loo last night, broke her foot in 3 places. Still at a&e.
O dear. Does this mean you have taken over child care? OH and I found grand child care pretty tiring. But I do sometimes wish them back - both at Oxbridge now.

For now my son is home to look after my granddaughter, but I suppose I may need to do school runs if she's still incapacitated by school time. And there I was thinking I had til end of Jan off, until my daughter started next placement! Like you though, I would miss them if they were farther away.

Well I just joined the thread to wish you a belated ‘Merry Christmas’ as was poorly yesterday and didn’t use internet on Christmas Day, then I’m reading all these terrible things.
I’m so sorry for your loss @Mary Poppins also @Jane&Ziggy for your friends pony, @diplomaticandtactful I hope the police take action and that the lady who got bitten and her poor little Corgi are ok and @Trewsers glad you are ok despite Zi antics and cat sick everywhere.
@Huggy hope your daughter is ok too.
Lets hope things get better going forward…….

the bad stuff continues. We were coming back from the beach today and were nearly all killed in a car crash. coming along a country lane, coming into village 1515 ish, lights on as been misty, a young lad on a trial bike came out of a field - his dad was at the entrance doing who knows what. We are coming towards them, the bike turns Right and comes flying along the road next to the verge on OUR side of the road i.e. passenger door side. Thank god I have good reactions, slammed on the brakes and swerved to other side of the road the twat should have been on - single carriage road - and managed to avoid skidding and going into a field as he had brought mud onto the road. IF we had hit him, he would definitely be dead, bike would either have gone over the car on in through the windscreen so front seat me and mum probably killed, Dave in back seat might have survived, poodles in boot might have.

I am fuming utterly furious stupid young lad, I don't care if he kills himself but he nearly wiped our entire family out!

Police coming later this week to take a statement

I am so sorry and can well believe it. We used to go to the country to watch polo and the driving from one field to another, via narrow, twisty, one track rural lanes used to terrify us. OH would sometimes pull off the road in a gateway to let the impatient locals speed past.

O but I do envy you the sea. I would really like to see the sea again.
