2018 Hacking/Riding challenge........ Add your photos and join in open to anyone.

Wow - this thread has gone a bit quiet - I can hear Harvey's hoofsteps echoing ;)

The heat is really affecting my riding particularly as I'm not a morning person. I'm slowly pushing Harvey's boundaries hacking out from our new yard - we did the same hack on Saturday and Sunday, once clockwise and once anticlockwise. Harvey desperately wants to go for a canter, but I haven't anywhere suitable with out taking a trip in the lorry yet. Anyway he was quite well behaved and for him quite confident and we even managed to open and close the yard gate when we got back.

I think I've clocked up a record for me!lol having ridden five days in a row! Yaye. Badminton here we come......not:p:D
I've enjoyed lots of pootling lately, thank goodness for breezy coastal locations! Lol I can totally understand those of us not riding though - the flies are dire when there is no wind:oops:

I'm so jealous of people getting out riding and playing.
Its been horrible here between gigantic B52 bugs and heat and humidity.
I can't get them to want to leave the fans in their stalls to eat grass let alone actually do something.

I got them out for play and grass a little in the last couple weeks but not much.
They are making it clear we are perfectly happy in front of our fans .

Forgot to add my update from last Sunday. The plan was to go out with another livery, when I got to the yard another horse had a new sharer who wanted to be shown around. I invited her to join us to do the route we were planning, we ended up doing a longer route and were out for an hour and a half. It wasn't quite as hot as it had been in previous weeks but I was still saturated with sweat by the time we got back! It was a lovely quiet hack, only had space for a little trot on the sand track as the ground is still like concrete everywhere else :( they keep promising us rain but it never comes! We had a couple of spooky incidents where pigeons flew up out of fields, the other horses went mad but my share barely noticed and just kept plodding on as he does :D he's still being a pain in the stable though. I know it's just me, he sees when I get nervous and then takes the mickey but I'm just not sure how to get over it.

Proud to say I managed a tiny ride on Zi yesterday even though it was VERY windy here - he was ace (apart from the pallet we use to harrow the school, he still doesn't really like it). He is such a good lad on the whole though. Hahaha maybe he knows what an easy "working" life he has got here:p

Finally a slightly cooler day on Saturday, but it was very windy. I'd been looking at the map and spied what I though would be a way onto the hill that avoided the gates (which we are having a bit of an issue with). We set off and sure enough the way on to the bridleway had a five bar gate, but with a nice gap on the side. The way up though was very steep and paved with slippery bricks - I pretty much got to the stage where I didn't want to carry on going up, but I didn't fancy going down either so we pressed on to the top. The top of the hill was very windy and although its a popular tourist destination it was just Harvey and I there. I managed to get a photo, but Harvey was keen to be heading home to we didn't stop. Sadly avoiding the slippery bricks meant tackling the gates, and they have added an extra one since my last trip. I battled the first one for ages until eventually I dropped my whip and had to get off anyway. It then took ages to persuade Harvey to stand by the fence so I could get back on.
The second two weren't quite so bad but still took a while. I wish I could find a gate somewhere where I could have someone to teach us both to do gates properly!

On Sunday it rained pretty much all day on and off (Yay!!!) so Idecided to have a day off :)

Not a bad view!

Sounds like you did well despite the gates! I used to have to get off Storm to do them, and scramble back on somehow. Wasn't so bad as she is 15hh but your lad is big isn't he?!!!
Nice view too:)

Yesterday managed a potter about on Zi. It was windy (nowt new there) and everything was going fine. Until. I SPOOKED US BOTH:eek:
I heard Mr Gillies the local pheasant fluffing and squawking in the ditch down one side of the school. I started thinking about the "what if" he flies up suddenly etc. Pheasants never worried Storm because there were so many at our old place but they are much rarer here. So then I began fixating on it and of course my electric pants kicked in which speeded him up somewhat:confused:
I think he got the wrong signal off me and thought he was doing the right thing speeding up. Took me a bit to stop but he was a good boy really. I really need to not do thst again!

@GaryB I can't do gates, I really need to learn! If you ever have any tips please let me know!

A lovely hack on Saturday, my first solo hack in a while which I enjoyed. It was so much cooler and quite windy but tbh I quite enjoyed it given how hot it's been recently.

We managed to successfully negotiate a scary tarpaulin and an off-road cyclist who decided not to slow down in the slightest as he came hurtling down a hill towards us. Luckily my share just stood and looked at him :) however he then planted and refused to go past some other horses on the way home  silly boy!

It was a lovely ride overall, I kept it quite short but I love getting out on my own for a mooch and we even managed a little canter.

Today's total was 5.32km in 1hr.

Totals 102.31km in 23hrs 55mins plus 200 minutes schooling

Its still ridiculously hot and dry here. Saturday was a trip round the block and bridleway for Harvey and I. On Sunday I was invited to ride with one of the other liveries and her daughter. We had a pleasant walk round the small block. I took Harvey in the scholl for 10 minutes afterwards so he could see the surface (its shredded carpet), and we did a tiny bit of polework.

I've been brave and booked in for a SK clinic next week - gulp!

I had a good potter on the boy today, he is so good really, he only glanced at the pig pen gate that we use to harrow the school with, I think he knows it won't eat him:pMr Trews happened to have placed his riding hat on a fence post though which caused quite a stir:oops:lol it did look like a discombobulated person or somethingo_O
It's been about perfect riding weather really - though our fields are still rock hard despite having had rain a few nights.

Another dry, hot ride on Sunday. Went out with a few other liveries for a little plod. One is returning from injury so we stuck to walk, although they all got a bit excited at one point and wanted to go! Not much to report, lovely and quiet, good company. Still having a few issues with ground manners that we're working on however...

Today's total was 5.9km in 1 hour.

Totals 103.21km in 24hrs 55mins plus 200 minutes schooling

Well we are back.....we have moved from the farm onto a big livery yard.... Melody and me did 20 mins in the outdoor school with Harry on Mz Eva..... walk and trot to get them listening Melody was on her toes a little but soon relaxed so we decided to go on a hack on the off road tracks we went a plodding explore.... I was very impressed how calms they both were. Melody spooked at a few x country jumps but other than that it was incident free..... Harry who is a good little rider in all paces and does dressage think he’s 12 he’s ok with me being a novice plodding older woman hacking bud lol I told him if he wants exciting hacks he has to go with Lunan and Beth....

So excited and loving the new yard.....I however forgot to take pics of the hacking track lol

What a great set up! Lovely to see you on the thread again too.

After my jellied legged dismount on Saturday pleased to say we are back together again:DI gave myself a dam good talking to and went out there with a positive attitude and pleased to say he went really well. There's always something going on in the countryside lol and even my neighbours cows being shifted didn't bother me (they really would not worry him - it's just me:rolleyes::oops:)
The day after we had another active pootle and it was just great. Decided not to bother today though as we are all at sea with madam being laid up again. I'd need extra matchsticks for my eyes:pso he's having a well earned day off:)
