Breed characteristics and such

I don’t think that’s breed specific, I reckon that’s an opinionated mare thing. Belle does it usually when she’s in a grump about something.
I'd agree its more about attitude than a breed trait....you do see it a lot in arabs but that says more about their actual breed characteristics rather than it being one.

So what breed characteristics are head tossers :D
That swirl that looks like they could fall over when do it at speed but they don't.

My welsh cob will do it if he wants to do something but isn't allowed, or if he's getting himself excited.

Do you mean the gypsy type cobs when you say traditional? I have come across quite a few in the past - and I think it all depends on where they were bred and how they are started. I was a bit scared of some of them at first and then I met two riding school ones that really changed my mind. However, (and this is really silly on my part I know) I don't like it when I can't see their faces - welll their eyes really! When their manes are so long. I know that is probably daft but I like to be able to see their eyes - hahahaa to judge their mood!!!
Yes, those ones. I don’t know what it is, but they seem so self reliant, and I know what you mean about not being able to see the eyes lol.

Reactions: Trewsers
Appaloosa: strong, opinionated, extremely intelligent, a partner or an enemy. I've owned one (my horse of a lifetime I miss her terribly) and known a few. Amazing horses but every one was the same. Drop kick you if you tried to boss them but would give their whole heart if you shared a partnership. All were also extremely visual with their moods and thoughts, facial expressions especially.

Welsh: sweethearts with trust issues and big personalities. They take their time, more than any other breed I've been involved with,to bond with and trust their owner. Never yet met a nasty, malicious Welsh but have met (and currently own) many a drama queen. They tend to "over react" in true Welsh flare and if you're not familiar with the breed or savvy it can be a match made in hell with the wrong pairing of horse/owner. They are very intelligent and often independant and in my experience with them, they will if they learn they can push all your buttons and always test whether you are worth trusting. I love the breed but they are not for everyone.

Amber is an ISH and is kind and calm most of the time.
Sire is half RID half Oldenburg. The Oldenburg bits I guess make her more forward thinking. She can be very onward bound and impetuous.
So I'd say ashe was fiarly typical of the breed - enough blood to make her powerful and athletic but sane enough for an amateur to ride.

ETA Oscar was completely typical of Welsh. Curious, confident, friendly, cheeky, kind, loveable and great fun.

Max is TB x Fell. His sire was a successful Point to Pointer, dam a Fell pony mare. The positive side of this means he has huge scope, athleticism and ability while being tough as old boots and very level headed. On the less positive side the Fell part makes him fairly strong willed at times and the TB part means he is impressively acrobatic when having a strong willed moment!

Don't bet on it being the Oldenburg breeding, some IDs can be very forward indeed, way past the point where it's a good or useful trait.

The Princess is an ISH - white book although I do know her breeding - sire & dam were unregistered.

Part Connie part ID & part TB.

Her over-riding characteristics are TB - complete drama queen - hot head - speed merchant :D
