For those of you that wear a bp, how often and when do you wear it? I've (hopefully) managed to attach a poll to try and make it easier.
Thanks in advance.

I could have done with multi options so put xc. I do wear for jumping if having a lesson. I might even think of it if not jumped for a while.

Always always when backing/ riding a young horse whenever I get on. I think I wore it for the first year with the cob. I bought a new up to date hat and new bp to start her.

I don't have a BP but use my air vest always when riding alone but more often than not all the time now.

So the air vest can be worn alone? see I remember reading that you had to wear a bp too? They've probably come on quite a bit since first launch tho.

You don't technically have to wear both, no. I actually don't personally know anyone who uses both together. You may well have read that because it's an FEI and BE rule that you MUST wear a BP for cross-country, an air vest doesn't meet the same safety standard as a BP and is just considered an extra level of protection, who when competing you must have both. As I understand it a BP is designed to absorb and spread impact, while an air vest is designed to decelerate impact but doesn't absorb shock.

Every time I ride...... except when I'm practising mounted games because I feel that it restricts me. Ironically, if I think about it, I'm more likely to fall off doing them but what the hell.....

Whenever the cob has despatched me I have landed on my feet or on my backside.
I guess gravity pulls the heaviest thing first.

Ps, have we lost the faces things. :)

An air vest is useless in a rotational fall, as you have to leave the horse for it to trigger, but as I don't really jump it's not a major concern for me :)

Everytime I ride.
Having fallen off a very sane horse a few times on what I consider gentle out the side door falls it definitely hurts and bruises not wearing one. My gentle falls whilst wearing one have meant I got up and got back on.
I've had a few falls from speed and jumping as well and they hurt even with BP. But if I'd not been wearing one. I'm sure I would have sustained broken bones.
It only takes a second for horse to have a moment and you are on the floor.

Rarely.

Only if going XC, if a venue dictates it or I think I need it - so, when bringing Pete back into work after a break for example.

Well.... depends how it happens... there are rotationals where the rider does come out of the saddle. Definitely helped Coral Keen!

I’m almost ashamed to say I never wear mine now, I know it’s bonkers but I actually feel safer without it.

I have a love hate relationship with mine nowadays. Last time I wore it, I felt breathless, it's getting tight!!! lol but joking apart, I have a weird thing going on. Like wearing it is almost giving into my fear.
