2019 Hacking/Riding Thread

Today melody and me HACKED ALONE..... we did about 40 mins round the various track at our livery yard.... I will admit I was a little nervous to start with but the further we went the more relaxed we became. But I have to say apart from being on her toes and little looks she was brilliant. And by the time we did our 2nd track she was calmer.... cannot wait to go again tomorrow :) not pics but happy memories.
Sounds lovely - those are the best - when you want to do it again! I didn't used to like going out solo at all, but love it now. I think because I'd pretty much thought my riding days were over, once Ramsey retired, now I have Hogan, I'm just enjoying going with the flow, and appreciating being able to do it at all. By the way, love the name melody - it suits her!

Sonny unmounted 12.25 hrs
Mounted 3.75 hrs.

A few rounds of play today in the arena and big round pen.
The footing was not too bad. We warmed up a bit above freezing but with filtered sun to
overcast there was a bit of melt but nothing fast.
When the new horses started to arrive across the street SONNY could have cared less.
He paid no attention. Andi though she carried on screaming back and forth with her old
love interest over there. The 2 of them were really announcing the new arrivals :rolleyes:

Hanging out while I moved some poop to forsythia. Hes content to hang out

When the horse arrived quiet and calm.

A bit later in the big round pen
he had a good romp but not silly.IMG_8896.JPGIMG_8900.JPGIMG_8898.JPG
Then back to nice and quiet liberty.
IMG_8915.JPGIMG_8910.JPG
I was very pleased at how nicely he did liberty in the bit round pen.

When I was playing in my little arena Virginia came up to talk to me for a few minutes and the
New people were pulling out to get 2 more horses.
Sonny was up by the road nicely ground tied next to me hanging out and I got the nicest compliment
from the new woman that is a trainer.
She said well trained horse.;)

I think she does Western dressage :):)

Someone right across the street that would be nice:);)

Tomorrow will be a NO PLAY day
Heavy rain all day then bad winds to hopefully dry things up Monday.

With any luck a play day TUESDAY:);):D

My Julie Goodnite dvd arrives monday so we will have it for next good play day:p:p:p

Didn't ride as it was too windy and lately he has been doing a good impression of a ballet dancer on drugs in his paddock:eek:
So I set up some make shift wooden fence posts in the arena - put his bridle on and played about a bit in hand weaving in and out and going over them. I am actually glad I managed to do something with him and glad I didn't attempt to ride, because he was really daft and took some settling. He also seems to have developed a weird spooking thing about one end of the arena:rolleyes:

Always good to hear about other horses being eejits! :p

Hour and half hack with Hogans best buddy and her field mate. He was a bit unsettled with the new dynamics but was good for him to have to deal with it - another life lesson. Little mini buck at start, but settled down. Definitely had to have my wits about me as Hogan wanted to call the shots about going in front or behind, so a bit of argy bargy until we reached an agreement! The pic is when we arrived home, and the expression is "I'm a good boy I am - don't know what she's on about"20190224_111751.jpg

Well Ive completely lost count of what I’ve done over the last week or so, but I did remember to take a photo to share this morning, this is the ford that we have to ride through, the photo doesn’t do it justice though, it looked so pretty this morning with the sunlight shining through the mist.65AE5653-D870-4199-B933-9C6C872EA7A9.jpeg

I can't conceive of weather like yours day after day! Mind blowing, but so pretty! (Not to you, I suppose!) Pics below are March last year - that's the worst we've had in decades down here, and only lasted 3 days!20180318_100233.jpg20180318_080914.jpg

OHHH yours looked pretty too!!!

This has been a very VERY odd winter.

If winds were not going to be really bad and if squalls would finally would stop
its not that cold its lingering at freezing so it could be a halfwaw decent
day FOR WINTER.

I HAVE THE WHOLE CREW …. horses and goats mad at me:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
With the bad winds no one is getting hay outside.
IM not chancing it.

It is funny their facial expressons get the point across....

We had to add a section of fence to close the 2 babies away from the hydrant.

They are getting too rambumbuious around it and have figured out how to pull the
pin that secures the handle closed.....
I need that hydrant and cant have them getting partially open and it freezing
or managing to break it.:(:(:mad::mad:

So Saturday my husband added a pc of fence with another gate

OMG theodore took a look as it was almost done and turned to me and THE LOOK....

THIS HAS TO BE YOUR DOING …..
DADDY WOULD NOT DO THIS ON HIS OWN....

Ha ha - it's like with the children - mum is always the bad guy! If looks could kill......

We had such nice weather this weekend - we all sat outside with our lunch. I decided to go hacking and enjoy it while it lasted. One of my fellow liveries is getting her horse fit for eventing so we hacked together both days. Saturday was a trip up the local hill via the bridleway and Sunday a shorter hack.

It was so nice on Sunday I went in shirt sleeves and I went and took the horses rugs off provoking a rolling session
