Coffee & Cake Shop Chat

Sorry to hear about your redundancy @Kite_Rider . Hopefully, this will be the start of brighter things to come for you, but totally appreciate it might be a shock.

Have fun lunging and fence moving @newforest

I'm so pleased it's Fri-Yay today - this work week has been manic and I'm more tired than normal, so pleased to have a couple days off.

I've got a lesson tonight with Pete, which in CV times, is positively social ;)

Just settling my sausage roll breakfast. About to take Zi into the school and have a play about in hand. Then take the madam out for grazing in hand and finally settle down to some work. Can’t believe it’s Friday already!

I've hired a carpet cleaner machine - bloody he'll it's hard work! But so satisfying - the filth that's come out of my carpet is shameful! Having a coffee then 2nd part of lounge here I come.

Can i borrow it after. My carpets are minging with dog hairs and cat. The dirt that gets trapsed in our house is unbelievable. We dont have no fancy tarmac/concrete farm yard. Its all limestone dust.

Our yard is stoned up - you know, like hardcore but omg the stuff we trail into the utility room and garage! I have to keep reminding mr t to take horse boots off at the door leading into the actual house. Otherwise everything is covered. As it is I hoover every single day. I always have done due to his asthma - everything has to be spotless in that sense and dusted regularly.

Lunging was fun. I didn't realise I had a dragon on the end of the line!
In fairness to her she pretty much took it all in her stride and I didn't ski once, and she didn't bronc. There is so much to see here and I scared the female pheasant who had two babies in tow :)
We only went one way, she couldn't settle enough for me to change the line so I left it there.

That's good she didn't buckaroo! Glad there was no ski practice either lol

I made a round pen for lunging Zi in last year. All I'll say is it was interesting. But not something I've repeated again.;)

Haven't felt like doing much today, this is what happens if I drive in the morning. I lunged Brodie yesterday before work and this morning I free schooled him for 10 mins. I'm going to cycle to the yard and ride this afternoon and might try a short hack before work tomorrow. I've just spent the day with the animals I'm looking after, baby rats are becoming more tame by the day. I really don't want to give them back at the end of the month!

Round pen is a no as I am using a corner of someone's else's grazing. It's a short term thing, there is another field I may move onto.
She's not worked out we have no school yet.

Mentally still sussing my fencing. :)

It's tiring, but very therapeutic - seeing all the dirty water. I don't know why our carpet was so bad - shoes are off in the hall, so it can only be one little dog. Yes, Alfie, I'm looking at you.??

Well so much for a ride and a drive.

We have a little glut of courgettes so we needed to find a few recipes to use some up.
Also on the shopping list curtiously of my mother was lemons.

Well we dont use lemons in our house, only used as pectin for making jam and chutneys etc. Well we are out of homemade jam. Fruit is in the freezer and weve been buying sugar over several weeks ready for jam making. Lemons were on the shopping list the week before but i actually forgot them. So got slated for that.

No quantity was put as to how many lemons, so i brought two nets of 7 small lemons last week, thinking that should be enough. Then someone said why did you buy all those lemons. Well it was on your list mother. Yes but i only wanted 2 or 3. Grrrr i was mad. Anyway been in the fridge all week, no jam made. So i have to find recipes to use up lemons as well now.

So my efforts, slaving in the kitchen this afternoon.

Lemon cookies with, a lemon drizzle on top. Should be white icing according to the picture. Dont think i got it thick enough when mixing. Never iced anything before.

Lemon and courgette cake.
No prizes for prettiness. Ive never made butter cream or used icing sugar so very much an experiment. My butter cream was far too sloppy and after putting it on the cake i realised it was never going to set, so ive had to scrap it all off and try thickening it. Its still not quite right, needs to be thicker still. For a first attempt im going to except it. Cake has tken a lot longer to make than i intended. Im sure it will taste fine. The gannets wont care what it looks like or tastes like. It will get eaten im sure.
