And we’re there...

Took the boy out for a wander today, there was loads of people out so he saw bikes, walkers, dogs and one little boy (toddler) eating an apple got very intently eyed up ? chatting to a neighbour up the lane suddenly Jess started screaming for us (we’d been gone 15 minutes already) so he called back and back and forth it went, then as we carried on we met a mobility scooter that had his eyes on stalks, then investigated some road works which he had zero concern for, then we turned away from home again and he had a little tantrum, squealing and stamping because he wasn’t allowed to go towards home! We kept going away until he calmed down (all of about 3 minutes) and lowered his head and was nice and relaxed before turning for home. All in all a successful wander and lots seen.

I decided he and Jess need more time out from each other (I saw that coming) so they don’t end up inseparable, so I got the front paddock set up and put him and Hank out there for an hour, Jess called, he ignored ? I’ll just keep doing that a few times a week so it’s a normal part of life

Hank gave me a little heart attack when I went to get them in, I really couldn’t see him from the gate

So apparently the boys took it to heart that they should spend more time away from Jess and put themselves in the middle over night

took out 2 fences to get there!
I’m sure it was an accident as they’d gone through the end of the inner track that I’d shut off on Saturday, then through the fence at 90 degrees to the first to get in the middle. I’m thinking it was Niko leading the charge, dan is too experienced with escaping and doesn’t break fences normally, Hank only ever really touches a fence if it’s keeping him from Jess and Niko is the only one tall enough to take out the top row ?

I love your pictures !! It looks a great set up (but obviously the boys want to re-arrange things by the sounds of it!!). Looks like you're having a nice spell of weather too?

I was having a bit of a glum morning, went to do the ponies and they’ve turned it around ? the 3 boys are finally comfortable enough with each other to REALLY play, they were all chasing and rough housing, I watched for about 20 minutes before I got the camera out and by then dan had gone off for a rest
The little boys were blowing hard and Niko actually had a sweat on and Jess was just quietly watching from the sidelines (she doesn’t do playing) I’m so happy ? Niko was definitely the right choice to join my little gang ?

Took the boy for a walk today, much better without Jess carrying on!

He is wicked smart, the 1 lesson a few weeks ago to move in the direction i point in has stuck nicely, and I swear he watched me put a couple of treats in my pocket before we left and spent the whole walk checking my hands which he doesn’t normally, He hasn’t had treats since the first week he arrived and didn’t get any today either ? he did great with some new experiences today, a van with a squealing fan belt following along behind us (as we passed parked cars) and he didn’t falter and a woman dragging a wheelie case down the path barely got a second look ?

he had a proper tail brush today, gosh it’s thick and wavy, enough that it wraps itself into ringlets, I think I might need to invest in a new brush and some cowboy magic detangler to keep on top of that ?

Felt brave this morning and took both the ASBO kids out for a walk, they were really fabulous, even got Niko to trot in hand for the first time ? and they managed to hold off on the tussling that is now a constant between them (hence they’re my ASBO boys)

It was foot perfect right until we tried to get back in the gate. I have to hold the gate open outwards and send one horse in and turn them, then the other (the gate is only about 4 1/2 ft wide) before I follow, close the wooden gate and go ahead to open the electric fence one which is only about 15ft inside the first (about 11ft wide). Doing that when neither are listening at all, Hank went half way stopped and zoned out, so Niko tried to walk right over both of us. Eventually got all 3 of us in the box and they start pissing about so I threw the electric handle out of the way which sent all 4 neds boinging around ? but it wasn’t a disaster, no one jumped on me or dragged me so it’s a win ?

Your like me, throwing the electric wire and handle out the way. Usually i do mine so once they are un done the gateway bit isnt live if on the floor, but sometimes its not always possible depending how i have to wire it. Billy doesnt know the dangers of a wire laying on the floor. I swear one day he will stand on it, hes had a few close shaves.

We all say spend time with your new horse to bond but it’s so easy to miss even when you do them twice a day.

I fed and did Niko’s feet last night and he and Hank were just loitering in the barn so I was just hanging out with them as I was all done with everything.

I was giving Niko a really good scratch and ear rub. He’s not head shy, he’ll let me touch all over but given the choice he doesn’t let it go on for too long, it’s just not something he enjoys. But after a few minutes he wrapped his neck around me and head into my chest, gave bigs sighs and let me keep fussing him, then he looked away and came back twice more ? I think he’s finally learning to enjoy it and to trust that I’m not going to do anything bad (not that I think he’s ever had anything bad done, just think he never learnt it’s not bad). Normally I’d just have gone home but a few minutes to just hang with him was really valuable, I feel like another big hurdle was cleared by doing nothing in particular ?

That's lovely - and so true in a way, a big hurdle cleared, just doing nothing in particular! I think horses should be a full time job - and we should get paid for spending time with them lol They are fascinating to watch and be around aren't they. Appreciate the twice a day thing too - it's never enough time. Hopefully you'll get more time over Christmas hols?

It’s not that I don’t have time to be with him/them, but when you’re getting all the jobs done it’s easy to forget to take time out to be in the moment with them, to really be with them not just in the same place ?
