2021 Hacking and Riding

I'm fine.
Thank you for asking.
My alerts seem really sporatic
So it appears as there's no posting to a thread.
We got my xmas present the new ring in The area in open flat protected area away from trees between arena blueberry patch and my husband's workshop.

We are so windy anymorei wanted a place to ride and play not in the open and not real close to the trees.

Its a little more oval than the csvsketti pen.

I have not started riding again yet but
I have been playing in it.

We set it up with some space to be able to go around the outside as well.

Got out this morning for a quickie. He was so good, though when I pushed him into his first trot he threw a little tantrum, but when he realised I wasn't having it, he settled into it nicely. There were a couple of times he tried to canter, but Hogan being Hogan, I want him to do it when I ask, not because he's in a snit. I've had a hectic few days with a lot of granny duties, and today took away the stress beautifully! Turned both of them out onto the longer grass, and sat for 5 minutes, watching them enjoy the grass and sun. Stress levels dropped another few degrees!Screenshot_20210408-112126_Gallery.jpgHogan looks ridiculously tiny beside his 16h2 field mate!

What a strange weekend - Saturday was cold and grey. I went for a short hack with my hacking buddy and YO and halfway round it started sleeting on us. We got quite wet and cold - we texted the groom to turn the heater and the kettle on for when we got back.

On Sunday I woke up to hail and snow. It was an early start (well early for me!) as I had a guided ride. Harvey only got 30 minutes in the field as we had to leave at 9. We had a really nice ride on some local hills with some ascents an descents that were the steepest and narrowest that Harvey and I have done. Harvey was a bit full of himself to the extent I cam back with blistered fingers

I'll let the pictures speak for themselves!

Lovely pictures @GaryB - I used to dislike going downhill out hacking - where we used to keep them on livery the yard was on a steep hill. I was always glad to get to the bottom................but least on the way home if she cantered it was all up hill lol

Yes lovely unspolit view. No trees on that ground. Mind that ridge drops away a bit. You wouldnt want silly horse antics whilst riding that.

Evening you hardy hackers this fair weather rider is getting back in the saddle again this week so I will be back logging my adventures. I will be doing a mixture of light schooling and gentle hacking to get us back in shape together I will be also logging my inhand work with her. As I plan to be doing lots of inhand to get me fitter

Sunny but cold this morning. Hogan just super atm. I think his weight loss has done him good - he's got more energy, but not fizzy. Got two canters - on both leads! Very messy - my fault, I find his canter very uncomfortable, but we'll work on that. My friend has sadly had to retire her quite young, beautiful forester, but I'm hoping she can come and help me lunge Hogan, and see if we can work on his canter. Ninja ponies in the trees again, but he just glared at them.Screenshot_20210413-113239_Gallery.jpgScreenshot_20210413-113248_Gallery.jpg

That's a shame for your friend having to retire her horse young. I had to more or less call it quits with Storm early on. She stopped doing anything other than extremely gentle pootling when she was only about 17 which isn't old at all is it. Your hacking route looks lovely as always- a bit enchanted with the trees and such (I miss those lol).

Yesterday managed a bit of an in hand play about with Zi. It felt like forever since we'd put his bridle on! And looking back I think it's been about three weeks. Mainly down to the weather - either far too windy or far too cold. He was lovely and listening and so well behaved too. I did wonder if he might put two hooves up to me and just want to roll (wouldn't have blamed him after being inside his "bag" (rug) for days on end).

I'll bet he enjoyed it too!

The trees are lovely, but in horses' eyes "there be monsters" lol.
