Jess update

The on off subtle lameness continued, so 3 weeks ago we put pads on with some packing injected under them. She has since been pretty consistently not right, but I think we’re finally starting to see some improvement. I *think* my farrier just took a bit too much toe off, which she needs to correct her angles but doesn’t tolerate because of her thin soles.
Coming up for dinner tonight she didn’t look too bad 🤞

Poor old Jess, just after my last post she managed to smash one of the hardish plastic pads, goodness knows how! she was finally truly sound a couple of weeks later. I think the farrier just took too much off her toe. Better this set, was sound for the first week, but slightly off again at the weekend. I'm not hopeful she is going to really stay sound now, but she is happy, charges about the field, bosses everyone around and is her usual sassy self and is maybe 0.5/10 when lame, so not awful. She seems more comfortable in her soles with the shoes on, but the overt lameness is more of an issue, bare she tends to be sounder but consistently footy, six of one, half a dozen of the other.

I guess if she is unsound but managing that's the best you can do, is she on any pain relief?

As I have an old field companions probably 2/10 or more lame every day I think she is doing pretty well! If she's up for a holly she must be feeling quite well in herself?

Absolutely, most days its subtle enough I would struggle to decide which leg it was on if I didn't know. Perhaps with lots of rest she'll come right again like last year (it was when Niko arrived and she spent 3 days non-stop charging the fence that she buggered it up again).
