2020 Hacking & Riding Thread

Stunning morning! Almost warm at 8 am. Went to bring Hogan in - grazing happily - on the WRONG side of the fence - 10 minutes riding time lost, taking down fencing to get him out  Screenshot_20200313-140040_Gallery.jpg

However, a lovely hack. Feel he's losing his manners a bit, and also just cruising, so some halts, and some leg yielding. Then home to try and figure out how he got through! Could nt work it out - must be getting through the undergrowth somewhere, so just put loads of tape around the brambles etc. Now looks like a demented giant has been trying to knit all round the field.

I went out early this morning, got to my usual mounting place, and Hogan threw a hissy at something I couldn't see, so of course couldn't get on. Walked up the track, leading him, and sure enough, there was a pony lurking in the bushes. Now I had to find something to mount off (saddle slip is a PAIN!!). Eventually got on, and cheeky was a pain the whole way home. That's it now until Friday as have the grandchildren. On that note, my grandson asked me tonight, Granny when you get EVEN older do you want to be a normal person? Umm.....

I was a bit torn on Saurday between riding and going to the SJ with YO. In the end I rode for about 30 minutes in the school which was pretty fruitful. Harvey just wanted to canter so I turned it into an opportunity by practicing walk to canter transitions (which we can now nearly do) and changing legs at canter (which we can now mostly do on a figure off 8). There were some jumps set at 90cm including a water tray so we finished off with a little jump.

On Sunday I had booked myslef onto a guided ride. It rained all of the way there in the lorry and then stopped just as we arrived. We had a really nice ride with nearly a quarter of the distance in canter. Harvey enjoyed it, but was a bit over excited!

Well I got my first of hopefully many rides in today we went in the school she hadn’t been ridden for 5 days and was like powered by rocket fuel in walk and trot farting along lol
i love my highland pony. I am planning to do pole work exercises along with exploring our fabulous hacking .... I also want to get Mel to learn to solo hack safety with my partner as foot soldier walk our dog out at the same time :)
yes we are as much as possible keeping ourselves to ourselves. But for now at least I can go riding which is my number one hobby ❤️❤️

First hack this week. Don't ever tell me that horses forget something minutes after it happens! We stopped to chat with someone, and Hogan has been a bit naughty when we stop - swinging his hindquarters about etc. so I made him behave, then moved on. Thirty seconds later, I started to trot, and little beggar suddenly bucks and bunny hops - sheer temper because I'd made him stand. Attitude from there on, all the way home - little toad. Bright side though, is when I got home, I realised it hadnt really bothered me. No extra carrots today though!

Melody striding out in the spring sunshine..... it was sunny but chilly in the wind.... so looking forward to more hacks out though most will be solo with my partner and dog as a foot soldier. But I will really look forward to my longer hacks social distancing with my buddies.

She really does look as though she means business! Lovely girl.

Really gorgeous morning, and I went out determined to shake up our routine. We've been slobbing along the same route for a couple of weeks because I know my boy, and if he's going to give me grief, it's because he doesn't like the different surroundings. Because I've not felt 100%, I've been giving in for an easy life. However, today we ventured a different way, and he was a star. Little bit slow, granted, but no dramatics. He really is a little schizo!Screenshot_20200322-110916_Samsung Experience Home.jpg

Omg...... nervous Nellie here only walked to the school 10 min hack did 30 mins schooling and walked 10 mins back to my field all on my own with my partner half a mile behind us as Melody was striding out lol.

Proud as punch I am not really a solo rider to nervous but I have no choice at the minute. Need to keep my partner safe in this pandemic.

after we went for a twenty min walk on foot round the lanes and tracks on the farm. 3000 acres of social distancing to ourselves :)

I took the opportunity on Saturday to have a last SJ clinic. The ususal venue was closed so we went elsewhere. There were several precautions taken - the car park was marked out to make sure we parked a long way apart, there were only 2 of us in the clinic, and our grooms kept apart. We also jumped at 80-85 rather than the 100- 105cm we would have jumped at. A fun day in the sun - probably the last for a while :(

On Sunday a group (distanced!) hack - again probably the last for a while
