As requested! I can't remember who ( ponies!) I had last time I was on here, so I will just update on who I have now.
Sham is now 15 and had a bout of low grade lami earlier this year. He has had a couple in the past, never full blown, and his weight has always been a struggle ( much like mine!) Anyway, when the vet came do do his booster and teeth, she mentioned that the medical company were doing free cushings tests, so as he was getting older and had recently had lami, we should take advantage. He had no other symptoms and we were both expecting it to come back negative, but he was well and truly over the normal number, so is now on medication for that and still his same old self. He still has soundness issues relating to an old injury, so mainly just potters doing the odd thing, which he enjoys. No pressure which suits him well! We recently had a very fun yard gymkhana where he was very well behaved and won a couple of rosettes!
Back in february I decided to look for a baby cob to bring on, and went to see a recently gelded 3 year old who looked healthy in the photo. His dam and sire were about 14 hands, and he looked quite heavy in the advert so he was just what I was looking for. Well, long story still quite long, he was tiny (stunted), lots of fluff and underneath just bone, and obviously had an infected gelding site. I should have walked but you never can, can you! Didn't even haggle over price, just paid it and they delivered him the next day. Vet was out within the hour and said he probably wouldn't have survived the week as the infection was spreading upwards and bordering peritonitis, you could see the swelling creeping along his side. He was also crawling with lice, you could see them walking over his face, full of every kind of worm imaginable, and thinner than first thought, though the hair covered it so well until you felt him.
Huge vets bills later and lots of tlc and food and friends, and he is the most darling, clever little boy anyone could wish for. We have been lightly backing him over this summer, and he is just about ready to be turned away for the winter. It'll be my turn to be on board come next spring!:bounce:
So that's all really, pics ahoy!
Paddy on about day 3 I think, best I managed to get of his condition.
Some of the delights that came out of him when he was strong enough to be wormed!
Starting to feel better, and turned out in a little sick pen with some chicken friends:
Feeling much, much better by summer and enjoying friends and life again!
First bath I think:
Some work in the school:
couple of little hacks and meeting some sheeps!
Being a very good boy at the yard fun show:
Sham also did fancy dress, and a couple of in hand races and things and enjoyed it mostly, especially waiting for the apple in the apple bobbing!
Phew! Think that's plenty for now, praying I don't kill NR on only my 2nd thread! :giggle: Hope you like them xx
