just wondered really as i have heard of 2 tack room 'clearout' thefts within a few miles of us in the last few months.....is it coincidence or are tack thefts increasing?

We've had quite a few before Christmas around nottingham. Not at our farm though. The farmers usually keep an eye out for travellers and warn us to take things home/hide them for a month or so until it's past. Luckily our tackroom is part of the farmhouse where YO lives but other bits and bob we leave in our stables/around the yard we have to hide.

We get a lot of theft at the end of summer/autumn usually (couple of farms nearby had quads stolen).

The other other day a couple of gunners warned us that people had been seen using whippets to catch rabbits and too hide our things just in case. My ropes and that are in the hay! shhh!

it probably says something more about the amount of nasty people around today than all being connected crimes from the same thieves, mix thieving gits with stuff they havent paid for plus not enough yard security and it will be calling them in.

The RDA school am at [millers nook, near bolton] has been cleaned out of its specialist tack mostly a few times not too long ago.
because they were unable to pay to insure gear after the first big theft,it stopped the needed indoor arena from being built as the arena money had to go on all the tack and security.

dont know about the cost side to it,but if the money is there, see about getting CCTV set up on yard, and put up warning signs that CCTV is being used, which is what MN had to do,they also have a lot of big yard dogs as well which will help against the wussier thieves.

We have had the rugs stolen from my mums horses back twice this winter! poor thing was standing naked in the morning. I think she was embarassed that she let someone take her clothes off for a polo. They also stole a box of lotions and sprays from our hay store. We have taken everything away now except for a scabby old headcollar just in case. We have painted massive postcodes on our rugs so the horses look like prisoner cell block H but at least they still have them on (at the moment!)
