You know when your hands are frozen in the morning and you cant get all the knots out of the haynet...............

He undoes them so easily he has so many knots which he pulls tight during the night.

I found a solution last year which I would like to share. I got some thick rope plastic coated, dont know what to call it really, from the DIY shop and changed all the ties to 1/2 " thick rope.

I only have to do three pull throughs and it is so easy in the morning. You can just see it on this pic. You can see the extra lock as well.

I do a few running knots (or slip knots), a bit like finger knitting, then when the horse pulls down it makes it tighter but when you want to undo it with icy fingers you just give it a pull and it comes undone.

I do that knot, push it through then do three normal ones on top so it keeps him amused all night.

I bought some clips from Decathlon which are to do with rock climbing so good quality and safe which i hang on baling twine to provide a safety breaking point. The same clips are used to hang buckets etc with a teardrop shape.
I make haynets up and tie them and just put them onto the clip and then unclip them to take down.I found the ones designed for rock climbing to be better quality than the ones in horsey places.
I find it much easier to undo the knots when the net is at the right height without four legged help.

Yes, I too use rock climbing karibiners - they are specially designed to be used with one hand (while you hang on to the rock face with your other;)). I use my old ones that are a little worn and I wouldn't trust my life with anymore:o

They come in so many different shapes and sizes, oval, D shaped etc. They can cost up to £5 but get the ones that don't have the locking screwgate on it - this is only useful if you need to make sure that the gate will not come open. Not necessary in a stable but handy when you're dangling 60ft in the air!

Up till now Thunder hasn't worked out how to open the 'krab'.

I fill the net, pull rope tight, thread end of rope through metal ring on wall, then clip the end of the rope to the bottom area of the net. It keeps it off the ground and is nag-proof. :D

I am glad I came back to read this again, because I never thought of clips and they sound so much easier than knots even with thick rope.

I have a few leg strap clips in the cupboard to experiment with. I always turn them into a fillet string which is easier to take off, just flick the tail through in the morning and slide it off at night.

Thanks guys.
