I've noticed as Ellie's coat is growing longer that she has a couple of patches that are completely devoid of hair. These aren't caused by her rug as they're in places where her rug doesn't really have any weight, also they don't look like rubbed patches as they aren't a gradual loss but rather a sudden loss of hair (one day they weren't there the next they were). They're approx the size of a 2p coin. The lady at the stables said they're the result of being nipped by other horses, but she always has a rug on when turned out with the others so surely that can't be the case either.

Any ideas?

Could be nips, might be ringworm. You can get treatment off the vet if it is. Wash the rug in washing soda to kill off the fungus.

She's right. They are probably bites. Benny, my horror got a whole pile of them when first turned out with his new mate Guinness. The hair is growing back now - nearly three weeks later.
