Sorry for asking a silly question, but I would like your opinion. I'm new to horses and I think about them constantly, even while at work!

Before modern times, which peoples were the best riders?

1) Mongols
2) Spaniards-around the time of the Conquistadors
3) British Cavalry
4) American Cowboy
5) Native Americans
6) Medieval knights
7) English fox hunters

Please name other examples that I have overlooked.

Thanks

I'd like to put in a word for the ancient Greeks. Read Xenophon On Horsemanship for an idea of how they rode, and look at the Parthenon sculptures in the British Museum :nerd:

I remember the Souix (sp) being described as the best light cavalry ever.

Hannibal was famous for his elephants but he also had a hard hitting elite cavalry

The Huns

Spanish/Portugese Jenners? I can't remember these exactly but I believe they threw javelins from horseback.

The Persians - one of the few cavalry to give the mongols a real hard time and the knights as well
