Hello there!
Occasionally I get on a mission to find out bits bobs and at the moment I am intrigued about the thickness of the bone and its growth.
I have a month old filly who has about 9.5" of bone already and her mum has about 11.5" of bone. I dont doubt that she will make as much as her mum....
BUT!
I friend of mine has just been looking at cob colts. dad has 13" (yes, 13"0 of bone and the mum has 10", both traditional gypsy cobs. The 7 month old foal doesnt have a great deal of bone, not 9.5 even like my girl... I have seen both parents and they have many mares and stallions but all are heavy boned!
So! What rate does the bone grow and can it differ so much between breeds? I know cobs take 5+ years to finish growing overall...
Any thoughts?
