Chanter is licking advice needed

Help guys any advice is welcome.

For the last two months I have noticed that when I walk chanter in he has taken to licking. Not licking me or soil or walks just sticking his tongue out and licking his lips I guess is the best was to describe it.

He has a salt lick that he uses he is not licking soil as no trace on his mouth or tongue and I gave never seen him doing anything like that. It’s really strange

Hmmm - not much help really but I know several horses that relax with their tongues sticking out

My horse licks like that too, generally when he thinks he is getting a treat.

Is he anticipating his supper? Madam will start licking before her feed bowl arrives.

Isn't licking and chewing generally considered a relaxed/content action? Perhaps he's just happy to be coming in for tea and to warm up/dry out

yes it is, He has never done it before
