The Celts fought from chariots. The Roman historians record them as being astonishing chariot drivers, able to run along the pole between the two ponies and fight from there while the ponies galloped.

Apparently the ponies were very small but very beautiful, highly bred and much prized. They drove mostly stallions, as you might expect!

Whenever I see an ad for a lovely section A - like this one -

http://www.dragondriving.co.uk/horseforsale-74199.html - I think of those ancient Britons and their beautiful well-bred chariot ponies. I know the Sec As are too Arab influenced really though, Post me pictures of some other ponies who you can imagine pulling a 6ft spearman into battle!

My Section A is a proper old fashioned type, she's a full up 12hh. I would love to get a chariot for her, been wanting one for years.

my god have you seen the state of the donkey underneath, god I hate that website.

Thats a lovely marked pony the sec A !

Had to be something like an Exmoor, A bunch of mardy stampeding Exmoors in a mood would be enough to send any Roman army fleeing, never mind a bad tempered Celtic spearman on the back.

Time Team or somesuch built a replica Celtic chariot using only tools and wood and techniques available at the time to a replica of one they found in a grave. They had a couple of 12 hh Welshy types pulling it.

That pony looks like my welsh b first pony, although mine was a little stockier and stood at 12.2hh, and mine had no markings on front legs and was sired by solway master bronze. Those poor donkeys, they look sad:(

I like the welsh very much. Handsome horse and a good price, scrolled down to see those donkeys. Poor little mites. They even look sad and scared. Couldn't believe the price of the one called Tank. That is a very expensive little cob. How on earth can they justify that?

I suppose what someone values their horse/pony at, and what someone's willing to pay is maybe poles apart. Although I'm guessing in some circles some may pay what seems a large price, a horse is only worth what someone's willing to pay.:)
