Hello

Very strange one but a registered section a dales pony is now standing at 15.3hh...so a horse not a pony. Is she possibly not a pure dales?

The preferred height is 14hh to 14.2hh. There isn't a max.
Have you got a LHC? Or are you measuring?

You’d have to check her paperwork to see if she is pure bred, you can get one unusually tall one from normal height parents very occasionally but if there isn’t paperwork then I would assume she’s not pure dales and something else has given her that height.

Her passport states Dales Pony but I'm guessing that's just a vets recommendation as they fill them in. I'll check any other paperwork.

If she's registered as Sec A then she's pure bred. Silly question but are you sure you have the right papers for her? 15.3 is a lot over the desired height of 14 - 14.2, and with both parents being Sec A I would expect them to be within that range. The other thing to consider is if you've measured her accurately, if you've used a stick without spirit levels and stood on ground that isn't level with an alert horse then you could be miles out.

I'd be inclined to get in touch with the breed society if she was mine.

You say she's a registered Sec A Dales so that isn't just a vet's guess. She should have a Dales Pony Society passport with registered breeding in it.

After further digging she's from a reputable Dales breeder and she is classed as oversized. She's only ever had one home so I knew it would be okay, just panicked!

Nothing wrong with oversized, accept you won't be able to show her.
I wouldn't breed from either for risk of passing on an oversized foal.

She's previously been shown but just local shows etc. I'd never breed from her either, in constant work and too loved haha

Firstly as a Native Lover dales are incredible special and fairly rare beed still. I owned Fell ponies for many years … still do the Fell Pony Breed Society carry a section X stud book for over sized, to much marking etc it was from when they were a very rare breed too. They couldn’t be registered in the full stud book as they didn’t meet the Breed Standard.

Just wondering if this dales is similar ?

Whatever how very exciting ❤️
